Hoth Heres the deal. I've been building pcs and screwing with hardware,software since 95. Unless your my mom, my wife, my signifigant other or my children you are getting charged. Make them have the donation up front. Say x amount minimum. After looking at the pc estimate what its going to take to get it running correctly. It may be a 5 minute piece of cake(rare)or say it will cost you x amount as you will be spending way to much time fixing the 3 viruses they picked up fron the torrent site they were on. Early on I worked on peoples pc for nothing and it was a great learning tool. After that my time became more valuable to me. It became even more scarce when I started my family. I've been working for a isp the last 10 years. So playing with pc hardware or software is about the last thing I want to do when I get home. Headshooting someone thats a different story if my eyes aren't shot from looking at a monitor all day. Bottom line your time is valuable don't let people take advantage of that. If you have that drive to learn that it seems you do from the post I suggest you get into network engineering, network administration,network security or voip services. Thats where job security and the money is at. If your not in that field already. Just some advice from a computer geek who pays his bills with his geekiness. What should be my first step. I know computers, But I am seft educated and also and IDIOT.

StanG - big crash was on acemod monday was having fun then bang blue screen , black screen then dead have my rig in the shop for a bit , but hope to be back soon . its funny my computer was off for about 5 days went and ck email , went and played ace mod for about 5 rounds then dead ? hope to frag u soon Blue screen is mem related. Either Mem controller, or ram directly. If your system is AMD it could be the NB which also affects the IMC. (Intagrated memory controller on the CPU). A black screen with no blue screen is voltage or heat. Plain lockups are usually voltage also. Hopefully you will just be paying for some ram sticks.

wargerble Video card is everything! Though having a good CPU and lots of ram help, but when it comes to gaming most of the work is done by the video card. The textures explosions, mip maps, and all that crazy visual stuff is all put on the video card to do the work. Now with most games out today a 2 or 3 year old 8800 gt 512 (you can get for $50 now a days, should be all you need (forget the dual video card crap I did that and it did nothing to improve the FPS I just spent money on 2 expensive video cards) But with Crysis, well truth is the way the game is programed leaves alot to be desired. Its the lighting used to make the texture glow as if you are really outside, its hard on any video card to do, they call that "pixle shading" Pixil shading is also used to make a texture appear 3d even though its just a plain old texture. 2 years ago when I firs got crysis I tried playing with at the time was the best vid card on the market a 9800 gx2 $400 when I bought it, it played it but at low settings. 20 to 30 fps I got frustrated with all the lock ups and errors. So I wated and now I went out and got a cheap ATI card a 5770 $120 well its a mid level card from ATI, and yea it wont do full settings with crysis but I am playing it with good visials all around and the frame rates are around 75 fps not bad. So i would say keep you cpu and memory and upgrade the video, the better the card the better crysis will play, besides crysis wars included in the "warhead" game is in 32 bit mode only unless you are playing from the original crysis game and I think it has a 64 bit mode I am not sure. Oh yea make sure you main board has PCI express slot, you may have 2 but man dont waste your money on 2 video cards I did and it made no difference. You bottleneck with almost any 5000 series ATI card on any CPU stock these days. You have to feed the card. 4GHz CPU dual quad or hexi core = Happy 5000 Series GPU. I built my brother dirtbag333's PC and it is a Dual core Athlon 6000+ 4 GIGs of DDR2 800MHz 780 Chipset and a 3870 512 MB. He maxes every setting in crysis at 40 to 50 FPS. You do not just need parts you need to know how to use them to there potential if you don't want to keep buying newer stuff. It is all in the setup timings voltages, lots of factors that make your computer runn right or good/fast. The more you learn about your PC the faster it will run. You bios will default ram timings loose and underclock lots of ram. Every part has a setting that it wants/needs. It is up to the PC owner to care to optimise the computer or tweek it. Hell my phone runns stock 550MHz I run mine 1.2GHz. So it is no longer just a Droid it is a faster better and still stable DROID!!!

RogueKill Yea ,that is good, I didn't know how far you wanted to go initially -but you are still looking at upgrading power supply and g-card--I was looking the other direction. Cause you probably won't notice the mobo upgrade although good,your dual core and 3gigs of ram , keeping it cool, will kick ass with a good g-card and power just the same-- then.... upgrade mobo,64 bit 7 , and ram as you go. I am running amd 965 quad processor,1350 watt p/s with 8 gigs ddr3 ram and 2x ati5850's, win 7 64 bit. I built it gradually on a budget.---thank my wife for that. lol Chipset can be the diffrence betwine 12 FPS or 60 FPS. That is part of the motherboard. Motherboard is verry important and it is nessasary to pick a good one. You can get a M3A78-EM for around $60 and I have run one with a few diffrent Phenom II x4 CPU's and It carried all at 4GHz on good cooling and 3.6 to 3.8GHz on air. The board suppors DDR2 1066 and has a single PCI-E x16 which means you can run one video card. You could run a 4870 1GB or a 5870 1GB in this theoretical build and max any game on one monitor with an extended monitor. If you went with the 5870 you would be capable of running triple screen and maxing almost any game on the market right now. Save crysis. FACT.

NightmareXI I have the HAF 932 as well.. really nice...but I changed the side fan with 4x 12 " blue led fans ....look at my specs air cooled at 4 GHZ with my i5 750 at load up to 58C^...while gaming 55C the 5970 is not worth it...maybe just try a single 5870... just my 2 cents Prime stable and temps only hit 58c ?......... On air...... Fucking nice for a 24/7 OC!!! Or on the other hand some say fuck prime but I have never seen anything stress like it. About 2 hours in it stresses the Chipset and mem controller pretty hard. I am 6 Hours Prime at these speeds http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1311287 I got to get a video of me finnishing up a 6 or 8 Hour run sometime while my hands are hurting and I won't be on the computer. Was talking to dollardogg one day and forgot I was running prime. I tabbed out of my game because my temps where high. I was all like dogg my temps are up and hitting over 60c WTF!!! All 6 Cores were maxed out and I noticed a little green block in my taskbar tray that should not be there, clicked it and it was prime I right clicked told it to stop and the square turned red. My computer loved my idiot ass again!!! The whole time we were playing and bullshitting prime was just minimised to my taskbar and kept running. I agree 5970 not worth it.

Marginal on games that support Crossfire, from my experience in crossfire and such I have found that many games that it works it is still smother on one GPU. I love my Crossfire setup but I would not build my system around Crossfire or SLI. Just gonna be a bit longer before games and drivers are optimised to make all nice and smooth. There are games that support just fine but I still like some old games too. Micro stutter can ruin your enjoyment of an old game quick and you sometimes just need one card. Sometimes on new games. I can max out Dirt 2 at 4320x900 on one 5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB or on my ref 5870 at 60FPS easy on either card. Not sure max frames because I limit that game to my refresh rate. Point being I can run crossfire and where either card maxes out 100% normally, both in crossfire will use 50% and I see frame drops under my normal 60. So yea Just my 2 Cents........ TY Xray Ray!!! I be knowing stuff sometimes.

RogueKill Here is my first computer build/mod---built everything including the case. What kind of CPU Ram Chipset and GPU are you running? What speeds / temps are they running? I could see much potential here, just wondering how effective this cooling is. Got some CPUz screens for me to droll over?....
