My 4X4 high keeps coming on while I'm driving. When I turn it makes a horrible noise and the tires will lock up. Took it to the shop and they couldn't figure it out. They checked the transfer case and the rear end. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Sorry to hear about your problem. not sure exactly what is wrong because i cannot look at the vehicle myself but i can make a few suggestions. this is going to be in your transfer case more than likely.DO NOT drive until fixed cause u could end up damaging an axle.  but sounds like its the viscous coupling. I would try a different shop, possibly someone specializing in trannys and transfer cases. is it all the time 4x4 (AWD)?

It could be as simple as your engagement button or switch. whatever you call it. My truck was doing something similar, it kept trying to go into 4 wheel drive because the switch was stuck. I put in a new switch, $60 and 10 minutes. Worked fine ever since.

Might be worth a try.

They told me it was in the transfer case, also. Maybe to get more money. Google it and maybe you can get some what of an idea.

Figured it out.  The CV axle is going out which is causing the censor malfunction for the 4X4 high.
