So we talked in TS last night before we got off and have brainstormed some ideas for the Conquest 64 Server.

 

  • Increase the ticket count for Conquest from 800 - 1200 or even 1600. 
  • The reason for above is to have people get more into the flow. Sometimes you can get out of funks playing with a higher ticket count :P.
  • Maybe implement a strong team scramble after a large blowout victory. The mod/addon or w/e will have to be updated though. Don't know if this is feasible either. 
  • For TS add Squad channels. This would help keep the clutter/etc. down. We could also maybe just break it down to whoever is on which team can be auto swapped to the TS Channel. Don't know if this is at all feasible but worth throwing out there.

Eh if more comes up I'm willing to bring it up.

Im all for scramble. i'v seen plugins that do this, and its devistating to see a 0-740 loss/win i beleive for a fair and equal gameplay there should be a team scramble (W/ Whitelist expections) with anything more than a 500 ticket loss.

 

i disagree with the ticket count to be set at 1600 that can lead to some painfull game time. 1000 seems like a good number 1200 is pushing it, i'v been to some of those server that have ticket set for that high, tho it might be fun for some, it is painfull for most.

 

The TS plugin has been done before and although its a great idea on paper. sometimes it doesnt workout in the end. (sometimes i want to rub it in your face that i killd you :P) and that plugin i beleive is no longer supported nor working for bf4.

I agree with most of what you written. I'm just thinking more of an ebb and flow type deal. Rush with 75 tickets could be upped to like 100. It gives the attackers some what of a chance (Gulf of Oman 2014). I think some slight modifications to maybe a 1000 would be near perfect and I agree 1200 maybe pushing it. I know I enjoy some of the quick games 20-25 minutes, but sometimes you want more to get into the match and when you are finally making headway towards the end it cuts off the momentum a bit. 

 

And Devil you don't kill me :D. I killllzzzzzzzzzzzz you. 

 

I agree though it's great to rub it in sometimes, but when you have 7-10+ people in TS it can get quite irritating when you are trying to focus and do something in-game and people talking about random stuff and I know I am not the first person to mention it either. 

 

Overall I love the server, just wish sometimes the autobalance could kick in a bit more (some games you have a 3/3 obliteration v. 0/3 and just pure rapage which is fine and fun if you are on the 3/3 team but can get quite frustrating if you are on the losing end. In the end I see more people wanting to come back if the games are a bit more even/=. I know it won't always happen but at least there can be an attempt on that. There really has been some awesome games on this server and then sometimes it's just a complete blow out. As I am new to pc BF I am not entirely sure what can be done, but I think if more can be done it should. Just my .02. I love it here and enjoy talking to everyone in TS even though FPS are my downfall and I can be Mr. Negative Nancy.

I think it should be sometime to look into. i have seen the blowouts before and the autobalancer will help to an extent. sometimes it wont help, it depends on the player it switches. all in all, i love the scramble idea :)

Battlefield is one of the only games i typically have fun rather winning or losing.

 

Even if you can't have auto-move for the channels, can we at least have some sub channels in TS like on the hardcore servers?

 

Sometimes I will be announcing stuff to my team, and forget the other team is also listening because we are all in the same TS channel.

I like the ideas. I've had some pretty bad TS/Mumble/etc experiences when a channel gets crowded, although I'm not sure if we have to go as far as specific channels for squads or TS scripts. Perhaps just a label to define that a channel is reserved for 'game' related communications? It doesn't happen often on XI but there are times I wish people would just stfu so I can hear footsteps n such.

All right, here we go.  No, seriously go get a beer, this is as dry as it gets.

 

  • Increase the ticket count for Conquest from 800 - 1200 or even 1600.

 

I would be willing on making a compromise to bump it from 800 to 900 and see how that goes for a while.  800 tickets gives an average game time of about 25-35 mins.  However 800 ticket rounds can also push out to 45 mins.  From past experience with BF3, we have found that round beyond 45 mins generally end up with less people joining.  Many times players want to get in a quick game here or there before work or some other event.   The second part of bumping up the tickets is it will change the entire way the Autobalancer "works" (I use that word lightly).  While its not too big of a deal I guess, I STILL FUCKING HATE TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE AUTOBALANCER.  

 

That brings me to the next point.

Here is a brief look into the Autobalancer:

For one, its is extremely confusing to understand.  Its not as simple as "when the ticket reach this, do this."  This is both good and bad.   Bad, because it has taken me almost 2 months to understand it, and I still fumble with it.   Good, because it is so detailed that there are many options and lots can be manipulated.

As you can see on the very bottom part of the image, there is a between round scrambler.  

 

Scrambler:

Only On Final Ticket Percentage >= 100 - means that any time a round ends with a ticket ratio of greater than 100% (For example, on a 1600 ticket server like ours, if the final ticket counts are 0/200, the ratio is then (1600-0)/1600-200)=1600/1400=114%.  So basically..  Bah.  See?  Now after doing the math, I need to change ours to 110% or greater.  This would mean that rounds that ended 150 pts from each other, would not scramble.  Maybe we actually scramble too much?  Anyway,  it will then scramble them based on RoundSPM.  I have found this to be the best deciding factor of who is doing what on each team.  

 

Auto Balancer:

For Conquest, when the ticket percentage difference reaches greater than 110%, it will swap 2 players from each team, one good player (defined by the top 25%) and one bad player (defined by the bottom 75%). It will do this a maximum of 8 times during this 'phase'.  Next it will wait until the ticket difference is 118% or greater.  At this point it will run the next phase and do exactly as above.  The final phase is when the ticket difference is greater than 150% or if at least one team has 250 tickets or less, at this point all balancing is stopped.  However it will not switch players if they have been switched within the last 45 mins, if they are in a squad with the same clan tags or if they are on the whitelist.  

 

I'm not even going to get into Obliteration/Rush/CTF settings...

Lastly,

 

  • For TS add Squad channels. This would help keep the clutter/etc. down. We could also maybe just break it down to whoever is on which team can be auto swapped to the TS Channel. Don't know if this is at all feasible but worth throwing out there.

 

There is indeed a plugin that does this.  From what I have read, it does work with BF4.  I attempted to set it up, until I realized I need some outside credentials from another admin.  Since there is an interest in this, I will contact them and see if it can be worked out.  I envision a setup like Pure Battlefield where when you log in to TeamSpeak it auto puts you in the channel for whatever team you are on.  However, the standard BF4 channel could still be used for those that like a more social type of chatter.  You are correct though.  We should strive to supply a channel for those that like 'game focused communication' vs. those that prefer 'social dialog'.  I'll look further into this and discuss it with some of the admins.

I think increasing the ticket count a little would be nice, there are times I feel the games go too quick. But with some maps it is just fine... I really like the idea of separating out the TS channels, at least by teams. 

 

I think it is good that we are discussing changes that could make the server a little better. I am also glad we are at least evaluating a new server host. I think if we could increase donations to cover costs, one thing the TS users could do is toss a few bucks in every month. If we all were dedicated to donating it would off set any increase in costs. 

 

Sorry to bring the new servers into this thread, it probably should have it's own. Just worth a mention I think.

Thanks Odd for a lot of the clarification on that. I think maybe just team side channels that way if we have more than two squads on the same team we can still communicate in TS.

 

As for the scramble that was really good information to know. I know it isn't easy so just wanted to throw that out there.

Oh I totally agree. It just feels that the current status that the server crashes at least once a night or every other night around 8-9 PM CST. When that happens no one returns.

Yup and the server crashed again just now. It just kind of turns people off to the idea of anticipating if the server is going to crash or not.

The server crashes we have been experiencing will happen no matter what provider we go to.   I file tickets for every server crash we experience, and the support team does full log analysis.  

 

To date, about 95% of the crashes have happened due to EA Blaze (backend) servers, and not Fragnets (frontend) servers.  5% of the crashes (so maybe 3 in the last month) have been due to an issue on the front end server itself.  We have been very careful in our research regarding a move to a new provider.   The reason the server has not moved to a new provider is because currently we do not see any difference in vendors.  The top posts, on nearly all providers forums, are some form of "Server crashes happening frequently".   So everyone is having issues.  

 

In addition, Damit and I played on some NFO servers for a few hours, over a span of 2 days.   During this time we also ran system performance tests in game.  The results were insignificant and indecisive.  Packet loss, hitboxes, syncing, pings were the same in NFO servers as they were on ours.  So the decision was made to stick with our provider for at least another month.  Its the whole "grass is greener on the other side" mentality.  Realistically, as far as we can tell, there seems to be no difference.

 

Server crashes are annoying, especially for us Admins who want to see nothing but a fully populated server as many hours of the day as possible.  However, the reality is, the game is still just bugged.  

 

Last night there was a PC client update, along with a server patch.  The server patch notes are always lacking (thanks DICE), but this patch seems to be strictly related to performance and stability.

 

The frequency of recent crashes are related to 2nd Assault, as before 2nd Assault came out the server would rarely crash, even over a period of 7+ days.  Nearly all recent crashes have happened on a 2nd Assault map.

I can't quote from my phone but thank you for the information Odd. My limited research on the different providers had me leaning that NFO was slightly better but you definitely have more information at hand than I do and I definitely trust your judgement.

 

It could very well be the relation to 2nd assault. It makes me sad cuz I truly love playing on the server.
