  1. One issue you do face is that most of your regulars are people who already like CQL all night. If you're going to mix in other modes you will need to attract some new people who like multiple modes to replace the few who don't like other modes than CQL. The EU server runs all modes (except air sup) on all maps (sort of) and it's perfectly capable of filling up every day - because the people who play there enjoy the mixed modes. On that, switching to CQ only would need finding new players who enjoy CQ only to replace the mixed players that leave. If you worry about the popularity of the CQ server you might consider adding another server for the mixed modes. Be wary that Rush and Obliteration work best with teams between 24 to 48 players. Most maps become an utterly senseless Metro clone on those modes with 64 players. I think you may have a challenge keeping the server full with the utter chaos that was OBL on Locker. That sort of senseless chaos doesn't appeal to everyone.
  2. All maps and all modes but SQDM and TDM is what I like best.. so yeah, I had fun obliterating things Hoping to see Rush as well.
  3. A huge amount of the gripes with the games are being propagated also by people who are simply not as good as they think, and blame everything other than themselves. The amount of whine we all have to endure about hitboxes, lag compensation, hit detection, netcode, spawn protection, wallhacks, aimbots and other rubbish is astonishing, considering most of it comes from people who can't aim, have shitty connections themselves, couldn't tweak their rig or their game settings to save their lives and have no use for the minimap cause they are apparently blind to it. The hitbox desync is a one-frame latency issue where the hitbox on the server is in a different place than on your client. The only people who notice this are the sort of chap who plays ESL at the very highest level and know where their bullet went versus what they saw happen. IF you're good enough to notice that bug, you would absolutely murder every round on the XI servers. Most of the lag compensation is done by the client - simply setting network smoothing factor to 0% will fix nearly all of that lag comp ("netcode") misery ánd will make your game feel smoother. A little tweaking with the video menu and not running a ton of "make your PC faster"-crap in the background fixes virtually all of the performance bugs and what's left to complain about are a lot of real but minor bugs and a lot of balance tweaks. There's plenty to complain about in this game. There was a lot to complain about BF3. I remember bitching a lot about BFBC2, I had the devil's own job getting my COD Black Ops server to not crash every other week, my COD4 was full of shitty hitdetection and headglitchery, Quake3 and earlier games made you hit at the hitbox on the server aall the time - if you had a 200 msec ping you had to lead your target by 200 msec. For every shot. As for BF3 being the best game ever - that's STILL full of rubbish bugs, stupid balance decisions and utterly repetitive gameplay due to those decisions. BF3 isn't the best game ever. In my opinion it wasn't even the best game of it's time. My idea of fun is not a medic train of m16a3 users supported by jetwhores, making all other vehicles and classes redundant. BF3's gameplay wasn't even much better than BC2, if I'm honest. You're free to indulge your nostalgia with BF3 of course, and if you feel that game is great then by all means enjoy it. But if you just come in to complain about how bad BF4 is without having really played it and to people who're obviously enjoying themselves with it a great deal, I don't know what you expect apart from a rebuttal. Nobody here is going to agree with you, since we're all on the side of "it's bugged as fuck, but the game is great". If that feels like everyone is jumping on you... well I'm sorry you feel that way, but I think that's the reaction you should expect. If I went into the COD Ghost forum (do we have one? Or the COD4 forum then) and explain at length and with not very good arguments without having spent more than a few hours in the game why it's actually rubbish and I won't be buying it, what do you think the CODders will say? I expect either nothing or "you're wrong". That's how people work, I'm afraid.
  4. So the video is going boohoohoo that games are released with bugs in them and ohnoes the consumers are still buying the product. Maybe that just means some people disagree with the terribleness of the games. Maybe that means, a lot of people think the game is good enough to justify the price, given that they might spend hundreds of hours playing these games. I know for a fact I've made people produce cheerful noises as they got my tags or frustrating noises as I ran over their shoes in my fresh tank. "Ducky, where's my building!" has already been yelled at me. We're having fun in BF4 mate, no worries about us. I know you have a floppy for BF4 bill, but that doesn't mean you're right that the game is crap. And the argumentation in this video is just silly. Crying that other people buy a product in a state you don't like is not a very grown up thing to do. EA will go bankrupt soon enough, look at their last five years. When they do and split the whole thing up into viable and dead bits, BF will land on the "viable" side of that, go to another publisher, and they will fuck it up just as bad as EA has. And in another few years, you'll be wishing EA was around yet to restore BF to the former glory of BF3 and BF4. Why? Because companies want to make money and people want to play video games. And yes, a lot of the time those are only half finished on delivery. Some are supported well and some are supported crappily. But in the end, how much fun a game is doesn't rely on support. It relies on how good the game is and how much fun the players are. Go play DayZ. It makes BF3 and BF4 look wonderfully bug free by comparison, and yet it's a huge hit. Because it's fun.
  5. After recent complaints that the least death-metally thing in my glove box is Slayer, and I am therefore a terrible uncle, I'm making another MP3 CD which is guaranteed not to frighten small children, or more to the point, their mother. In fact the smallest of the children was playing air guitar in the back seat during Spirit in Black so I'm not bothered about him. So, my new mix CD is going to include at least these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKPmgTsq-x0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mHe6FMs46o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itKMvtXqGs0 There we go - no way can there be any objections to the noise level now.
  6. Happy New Year! And because I've been listening to all sorts of german oompah-music for the last four hours (to go with the beer) (I don't drink beer) a little karmic cleanse
  7. I know it's not strictly magic, but the bunny is certainly gone.
  8. It works only on some servers, and those are all pretty damn empty. I'd wager there'll be another apology from DICE/EA up soon. http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/412518926850523200/389682867/ That one works.
  9. and now it's whining about my drivers being known bad ones. I haven't checked the calendar, but sometihng tells me it's monday.
  10. I tried auytomatch, it connects to a server and then boots me because the client and server versions do not match. Origin says there is a 890 MB uppdate available for BF4. I've installed that, am trying again now.
  11. Running a populated, reasonably popular BF3 server, especially now most of the players have buggered off to BF4, is not a trivial thing to do. I see most of the BF3 players in the BF4 servers now. Very few have stuck to 3. Certainly all of the players that I saw would sit in the empty server to kickstart it in the mornings have gone to BF4. And as Hans² pointed out, filling up the empty server in the morning isn't just done by admins, you need 4 people and for the EU box anyway, that meant regular players, not even clanmembers, who showed up early and helped the server start up by joining it while they had breakfast. The problem there I think will prove to be: if you could be bothered to invest the time to help start the server up in the morning and to spend time on it every day as an admin, you would by now have already either told rugger or you would have bought BF4. If you spent a lot of time in the game, you would probably have found something else to save on so you could by BF4. Beers in the pub, smoking, anything. Honestly I doubt that the people who play "a few nights a week" are numerous enough to start that server, let alone admin it. And you really do need active admins if you want the server to stay full.
  12. The worst mine ever did was trying to sit in people's lap when he was a 7 month old puppy. Nobody died.
  13. Hey doggy My crashes have changed, yeah but.. I used to crash every other round at the map change. Now I crash every third round, but in the middle of the game. That's not an improvement as far as I'm concerned.
  14. Yes, another duck. Ducks rule, you see. So, introductions may be in order, and since I'm the new duck, I guess I'd better introduce... me. My real name is Aart, I'm not an actual duck in real life (Killingman is going to be so disappointed) and despite what some people in the BF4 TS channel say I do not have a funny accent. For a dutchman. Living in Germany. I may not be selling this well. I work in IT (a fact I try to keep hidden from friends and family) as an engineer/architect for a large global company and in my off time I on occasion do a little consulting for small businesses on the side, when I can be bothered. All of my hobbies are boring, because they're things like enjoying music, playing video games, being in the pub with friends and on occasion lending my dad's 65 kg dog to go for a drag. He goes for a walk and I hang on to the leash, until he tires or my arm falls off. Gaming-wise I spend my time mostly in BF4 at the moment, with occasional detours for DayZ:Origins and Forged Alliance. I'm rubbish at all three, so if you fancy a win, just challenge me. That's enough quacking about me, time for the festivities. Where I come from, the new boy gets the first round of beers for everyone. So without further ado, I'll begin handing out ... Oops. I just remembered one other fact about ducks. No hands...
  15. Q works same for HC as for normal. The difference (ONLY difference) is 3d spotting is off, so you don't get the big flashing red arrow to aim at. But people do show up on the minimap and battlescreen, and you get points for people who you spotted getting greased. Marking flags to capture works and of course Q still lets you shout out for ammo and med packs. Use the Q. Q is your friend.
  16. It's really good. I haven't crashed twice. And Edd was just saying how he liked the patch when he crashed... But the sound bug seems to be gone for real now. Every bit helps I guess.
  17. R15 Server Update Notes -Various server side crash fixes, including the top seen crashes on R14 -Activated the reservedSlotsList.aggressiveJoin command that enables VIP players and server administrators directly joining full servers -Client patch compatibility to make servers compatible with the Dec 09 client update PC notes: Dec 9 PC Game Update Notes -Fixed one of the most frequently occurring client crashes -Fixed broken collision on containers with open doors. This fix will reduce the occurrence of corrupted save files. New server patch and client patch today.
  18. I've gone for cherry red mechanical keys as well, same as bill. I am not going back to membrane, for sure. I strongly recommend grabbing a mecha keyboard as well. I've got a Ducky Zero (I couldn't resist) and it is sublime. And not just cause the brand is called Ducky
  19. He is 19 with a 4 year old son. Something tells me patience and being careful aren't in his nature, really. Also who the hell buys a 4 year old a 400 pound console...
