Many of you know that my wife and I have volunteered with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company (in Sterling, Virginia) for more than 15 years. One year ago, tonight, my little community of 183 homes suffered a catastrophic explosion of a home just four houses away from where my wife and I have lived for 30+ years. The explosion knocked photos off our walls. Curtains ripped from the walls and the drywall in our garage ceiling collapsed from the pressure of the explosion. The explosion not only rattled and scarred my little community, it tragically took the life of my fellow friend and firefighter, Trevor Brown, who served with my wife and I at the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. The explosion also significantly injured 11 more of my brothers and sisters , several of whom have still not been able to return to duty and in some cases to work. I was the first fire-rescue personnel on the scene after the explosion. I cannot even describe the horror..the house completely obliterated. And my guys...my fire-rescue family buried under tons of rubble, two of which suffering significant burn injuries. But today...today we reflected and honored their sacrifices. All the girls in high school called me smegma...not sure why. Okay just kidding....I came up with the name Smegma back in the day playing Quake, etc. I wanted to come up with one of the foulest names just because...and it stuck. Unfortunately some other schmuck stole the name Smegma when I moved up to COD4. I used SGTSmeg for a long time but changed it to Smeggie...well...because that's pretty much what everyone calls me.

Woke up in Pensacola Beach with 7" of snow this morning....WTF?!

I'll be away for a couple of weeks while we attend memorial services for my wife's father in Nawlins' and visit my 93 year old father in Texas. We'll take a few days to unwind in Pensacola Beach, FL on our way back home. Please send warmth..... I know you'll miss me @Ruthless and @Tiger! but everything will be okay until I return...

This week has wreaked havoc on the boats in our marina. Earlier this week the wind blew all the water out of the Potomac River. We normally have about 7 feet at Mean Low Tide under our boat. They were all sitting in the mud. And then this....mother nature can suck it! I am sure @MISERY can relate....
