  1. Another friend in high school, whose name is also Tom, went by the nickname "Mot." Maybe he was dyslexic or something, I don't know, lol. He started calling me Mot, too, and it stuck. I, in turn, called another Tom Mot and it became briefly fashionable to be called Mot if your name was Tom. Fast forward to the internet and the era of usernames. For a while, a username like "Mot" worked just fine, but eventually 3 character usernames fell out of favor. Long about that time I was starting my internet radio station (Girls Rock Radio) and adding "dj" to the beginning seemed a way to connect another part of my professional life to my online persona. But I keep the "dj" part lower case as being a radio Disk Jockey really isn't a formal skill for me (even though GRR is the premier destination for the music of women artists in the rock, pop, and alternative music genres on the internet today,) so being lowercase is my way of de-emphasizing that skill. Plus, it kind of looks cooler with the mixed caps. Unfortunately, 5 characters is still too short in many situations, so I sometimes have to add other stupid shit on the back end to pad it out. That's my story.
  2. Yes, DeeJay, that's right, we are fined if the snow is not cleared in an timely manner. Within 24 hours following a snow event, I believe is how the city ordinance reads. Also, they say the "public" owns the sidewalks, but the property owner adjacent to the sidewalk is responsible for its upkeep and maintenance. So basically, the public, who owns the sidewalk in the first place, gets to sue the property owner for any calamity the befalls them while walking down your piece of the sidewalk. Stupid. It has worked a different way over here with no legal duty to clear public paths outside ones property. If one does so out of a sense of public spiritedness, there have been suggestions that one could be sued if someone slipped and fell because the job was not good enough. We have to pay the water companies to dispose of the rainfall that falls in the street outside our homes... Now that is stupid! Totally stupid! We don't pay to deal with runoff water. Although I suppose the storm sewers' maintenance is just wrapped up in our ridiculously high property tax, so we get charged in some way. We do pay a per gallon charge for municipal sewer directly related to the number of gallons supplied by the water mains.
  3. I know, right? Brutal storm! All the worse for you returning after it had turned so cold in the wake of the storm.
  4. We hardly got any last year either. Warmest winter on record I think it was. Not even rain. It was just mild and dry. As for this year, you can have all I get. You pay shipping, okay?

  6. Um. Wow. Thanks for that. Whatever.
  7. Very awesome!
  8. Congrats! You got in just under the wire! 12/21/12
  9. Kids nowadays would be looking for a fiver, if not more.
  10. Yeah, you guys got a lot of rain, didn't you? Funny how it's 20+" here and rain there with only a little over an hour drive between us!
  11. Apocalypse Day 12.21.2012; Day After the Blizzard. Middleton, Wisconsin. This area was hit the hardest by the blizzard that meandered through here, dumping over 20" of snow over an 18 hour period. As my snowblower broke down right at the onset of the storm, I had the pleasure of shoveling all of this mess by hand. As I type this, my right hand keeps falling asleep and I can't make a fist with it due to the load that arm has been forced to carry over the past 24 hours. The temps were near, at, or above freezing the entire time the snow was falling, so it was particularly heavy. I also got to do battle with Newton's equal and opposite forces law. The pavement under the snow was slick, so as my arms thrust the shovel into the snow, my feet tried to slide backwards away from the shovel. Not the way I wanted to spend the last day before the end of the world. But hey, it's after 5pm central, the sun has set, and so far we still seem to be here. But the night is young and anything can happen, right?
  12. Caming? What is that a euphemism for?
  13. I call this one "Before the Shovel." This storm is a *long* way from being over, but it's before the blizzard-force winds kick in, so all the snow is still clinging to everything. Pristine and pretty.
  14. LOL. Leave it to Rami. He's as bad as The Beav.
  15. Johnny! Happy Birthday. Rock the crap out of your day! :fun: :fun: Sorry I won't be at the Breakfast Club Thursday morning to wish you a happy birthday in person. I'll probably be out shoveling or hopefully snowblowing if the snow is light enough (which is doubtful since it's 34ºF right now just before midnight.) It's really coming down right now and they're talking up to 7" overnight, then another 5 to 11" tomorrow with a grand total for the storm somewhere up to 19". Weird math there, I know, but that's what they're saying for now. This just might be the mother of all storms for us here.
  16. Welcome Gedds. Happy shooting.

  18. Way to go Kansas; welcome to Idiotville.
  19. Welcome aboard Cpt.Miller. You've been a good guy to stalk in the maps.
  20. That's some insane shit right there!
  21. Dielectric coefficient = 0. About equal to his IQ.
  22. Perfect.
  23. Prayers from up here, too. Just amazed at all the senseless violence lately. And at this time of year, no less.
  24. Welcome to the forums, Sn00p. Enjoy playing VNFreezeTag with you and Sn00pett.
  25. As you pointed out, bluesnut, it's not just in the area of computer help, but that is just another xtreme benefit to being with this clan. I was also really impressed with the welcoming and helpful way other XI members accepted me when I was just finding my way around the big world of gaming servers. I'm sure there are other really nice clans, but I just feel lucky enough to have found XI first. Sorry you had a bad experience elsewhere. Enjoy your time on our servers and we'll look forward to eventually welcoming you aboard once you've made it through the prerequisites and are able to make application.
