Apocalypse Day 12.21.2012; Day After the Blizzard. Middleton, Wisconsin. This area was hit the hardest by the blizzard that meandered through here, dumping over 20" of snow over an 18 hour period. As my snowblower broke down right at the onset of the storm, I had the pleasure of shoveling all of this mess by hand. As I type this, my right hand keeps falling asleep and I can't make a fist with it due to the load that arm has been forced to carry over the past 24 hours. The temps were near, at, or above freezing the entire time the snow was falling, so it was particularly heavy. I also got to do battle with Newton's equal and opposite forces law. The pavement under the snow was slick, so as my arms thrust the shovel into the snow, my feet tried to slide backwards away from the shovel. Not the way I wanted to spend the last day before the end of the world. But hey, it's after 5pm central, the sun has set, and so far we still seem to be here. But the night is young and anything can happen, right?
