hey all, ive been having some really bad lag spikes in the last week or so. i have an ati radeon 3650 and i think its just starting to die on me. i wanna get the 4650 but i only have a 300w power supply and i really dont have the cash to get both.i been reading alot of forums about this and they all say that the 4650 dosnt use alot of power and that dell power supplies are stronger then what they say.like i said i cant get both and the vid card is only 60 bux new at tiger direct but im worried im gonna blow my power supply and then ill be really fucked cause i wont be able to get 1 for atleast a few weeks but this choppy laggy bull shit is killing me.so if any one has any good advice id love to hear it

thnx DEL1>XI<

300W is really small, but according to several articles I looked up.. you should be able to swap to the 4600 series and use less power. This article is all about the card you have: (this link carries you to the power consumption page)

http://hothardware.com/Articles/ATI-Radeon-HD-Refresh-3650-and-3450-Arrive/?page=9

This one talks about 4650 and 4670:

http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/ati-radeon-hd-4670-and-4650-released-tested/

another good one on 4650:

http://www.productwiki.com/ati-radeon-hd-4650/

In my opinion, I would spring for the 4670 and try it out with your present power supply. This card draws about half of what your old card does. I would however get a PS as soon as possible. It is possible THAT low power is currently causing some of your problems.

You can't go wrong with upgrading PS first, then vid.

Yup power supply. I'd recommend a dual rail 12watt that pushes a MINIMUM of 25 amps. Make sure you get proper ventilation. I had this same issue when I was ready to play COD4 and 5. Bought the power supply and now I can max out all the graphic settings and play both (and I only have a Nvidia 7800GT).
