Referencing my area which had all alarm bells going but the biggest hit was temporary power loss and internet loss. Not anywhere near what local officials had anticipated. A local area along the river that floods frequently barely got their feet wet. I also understand, correct me if I am wrong, that the storm was in "bands" and perhaps we missed the worst.
There was some tree damage from wind but pretty much nothing from flooding. I think a lot of the tree damage was because of Mondays all day rain. When the winds hit the ground was already soft and wet, not a good thing at all.
I also suspect your impression of the storm is tempered by the unusual atmospheric circumstances coming together to make it unique and a weatherman's dream story.
But then again better safe than sorry.
