  1. uh we were supposed to pay for it? I never knew...
  2. Once you have upgraded to 10 you can delete the Windows.old file by running Disk Cleanup utility as an Administrator, this will free up 20+Gb of disk space and remove the ability for you to Rollback to win7/8.1. Also once the upgrade is complete you can retrieve your windows 10 key and use it to format and install a Full Windows 10 on whatever hard drive/directory you want to use.
  3. Reportedly if you have a Live account and a supported game you can game with the console kids on your PC. I don't see anything but hackusations coming from the xbox side because they are out of the gate at a hardware disadvantage to the majority of PC's that will be running Win10 and well they are console kids what do they know about serious gaming anyway...right ?
  4. They did that with Halo and Vista/DX10 and a few other titles I never bothered to spend my money on. It got cracked pretty quick this will too.

  6. I never did care for the Logitech software and gave up on them when they quit making the original MX518
  7. Just don't use the express settings when you install 10, all that stuff is plain to see, not like it's hidden and it's not like LinkedIn, the NSA and Facebook haven't defiled your personal info to dust already. Don't sign up for one drive, don't sync it, don't sign into it. You can even set it to not load with windows (reccomended imo) I keep my own backups and system images. I like 10, it definitely runs quicker than 7 and the UI is very nice Been using automatic updates for years, once in a great while it causes a driver issue but it's never been the end of the world and I don't expect it to be. All in all as far as Win 10 is concerned unless you're one of those Jared Fogle types you got nothing to worry about, As with any internet activity practice safe and use common sense... Or at least use a Proxy!
  8. I don't think you can do a clean install without a key, meaning you would have to upgrade get the key then do a clean install.
  9. Try this, go into internet explorer settings(It doesn't matter what is your default browser, everything piggybacks off this setting) internet options / connections tab, select LAN settings, in the pop up at the top check box of automatic configuration: Is automatically detect settings checked? if no check it, if yes uncheck it. Make sure the other checkboxes are unchecked unless you are using a proxy....if you ask, what's a proxy, the answer is no proxy being used Close IE and any browsers you have open and reopen whatever it is you are using and look for improvement, if it doesn't help go back and put the checkbox how it was originally. You haven't recently uninstalled/installed over the top of Norton's internet security or antivirus have you? Nortons is well known for wrecking internet capabilities when you uninstall it.
  10. Yep they have been on SP1 for a while. 2 of the machines are Win7 Pro and are fairly fresh installs with minimal additional software installed, AV, Chrome, Office & Media Monkey. The other is a 2 yr old install of Win7 premium with loads of crap installed across 3 hard drives. I have backups of the important stuff and I'm going to let it do the upgrade as is and see what happens. The Win 8.1 machine is done and is now a Win10 machine and working fine so far. This one is a recent OS reset, updated all the win 8.1 updates and have Chrome, AV, Kodi and PopcornTime installed. It's a Quad core J1900 Celeron I use as my htpc.
  11. I am running the update on the first of 4 machines I have. It is a win 8.1 to 10 upgrade all the others are win 7 and have not given me the upgrade is ready notification yet. 45 min into it it is 95% done
  12. Have you tried going into the bios and disabling the onboard sound? Once it is off Windows shouldn't try to update it, otherwise go ahead and let it update it won't hurt anyhting even if you aren't using it.
  13. Welcome aboard!
  14. They build housing developments all over Rural Misosuri ....Next to Pig Farms and chicken Farms that have been there many many generations. People buy the houses for the rustic rural countryside setting, then set about suing the Farmers for the smell hurting their property values. Apparently being a homeowner in suburbia means you can litigate away every inconvenience on a whim as long as you have the cash and the douche-canoe card to outcamp the defense.
  15. The Tool you speak of should be Dxdiag.exe. What it does is checks all your Directx driver files for sound and video for WHQL signatures (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) If a driver is not signed by microsoft it will be rejected by Windows. Gone are the days of XP and telling windows use the file anyway. Something is corrupted possibly. Looking at your other posts, you might have a Hard drive about to take a dump or malware of somesort. If you are able check S.M.A.R.T status of your Hard Drive look for errors and life left if it lists it Think New Hard drive for Windows 10 if you are upgrading, fortunately they are dirt cheap for both Platter/Hybrid HD and SSD right now
  16. Try this from Viper antivirus: http://www.vipreantivirus.com/live/ it is a usb drive scan/cleaning tool that operates outside of the OS, meant for badly infected systems preventing install of an antivirus app. I use malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware but Viper always finds things the two of those do not when I am cleaning a machine for someone. Its the first AV product I have paid for after using the trial in well over 10 years It works very well and does not monger the resources.
  17. Saw this today Alert for upgraders using multimon nvidia setups on Win 10 http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/25/windows-10-automatic-update-problems/2/
  18. Who knows maybe there will be renewed interest in PC gaming once the console kids get tired of being beat up
  19. How many pins are bent? If you have a bit of free time you can try using a mechanical pencil to straighten bent pins. Remove the lead and use the tip opening to snag the pin and Very Gently bend the pins back to straight moving the pin further into the pencil tip. If a bend is too sharp you may never get the kink out without breaking the pin off, or half the chip is folded over and it would take a month to fix it ..paperweight... but if its less than a hundred it's at least worth the try. I use a magnifier lamp, I have fixed a few 1155 sockets with an exacto and tweezers too lol.
  20. I am positive you can turn that notification off either in TS or in windows notifications. Xfire would do that to me when I got messages, it never did work well with Cod4 at all. I like steam because I can use it ingame with any game, steam game or not. Xfire was less than stellar at that. Steam has a light footprint 2.75mb program size and only uses 52K of ram idling in the tray. There is a Steam mobile app that works fairly well for messaging out and about. It has been a long time since I used HLSW. UO/CoD2 I used it as an admin Rcon tool to watch over multiple servers. I think there is a mobile app for it? I tried it a number of years ago but the phone I had at the time was crap so not much to say on that besides I never knew it had chat. Origin...I have no valid reason to not like it but I never did like it. I also have naming issues with origin. my penny's worth
