Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a few new components to build myself a newer PC that would take my new graphics card I bought last Christmas but would not fit in my previous case (proprietary design crap).
Anyway, on a tight budget so I went with components that weren't too outdated, have some future upgradeability, and without having to spend a large sum of dollars.
So I went with:
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-880GM-UDSH w/socket AM3. Not super high end but does the job nicely.
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 925 Quadcore 2.8 GHz. Nice upgrade from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dualcore 2.2 GHz.
RAM - 4 GB DDR3 Corsair XMS (board will take 16 GB). Will probably pick up another 4 GB later.
and now I can use:
Video - EVGA nVidia GTS 450 w/1 GB DDR5 RAM
This all went into a case I had laying around and the PSU and hard drive from old unit.
All in all, so far I am happy with it. Gaming tonight was smooth with nice, noticeable improvement in graphics and overall performance. Just monitoring temps now to make sure I have good airflow in the case (which is on the negative pressure side).
Cheers all.
