Keep in mind that most munufacturers ssd's will not update the firmware unless it's in AHCI mode.

My 950 pro was running slow also. Looked in device manager and for my AHCI driver the standard Microsoft driver was listed,( my ssd was listed as a removable device in "safely remove hardware"). I found an Intel driver that was modded for W10 and also digitally signed. Upon installation ssd was removed from "safely remove hardware" and my read write scores increased greatly.

I used Display Driver Uninstaller, (DDU), when I installed the latest driver and one of the steps performed is to create 2 registry keys that disable driver updates through Windows update. It does this so that a clean installation can be performed. Seems to be working so far, no more Nvidia drivers pushed through Windows update.

Windows update force installed driver 376.53 today even though driver updates were turned off (regedit). Even with the Nvidia driver hidden in Windows update it still installed. Only way to keep it from reinstalling was to install the very latest driver (378.49) with network cable unplugged. Seems to be complaints about this all over the net. Has anyone else experienced this?

Had no issues on Windows 8.1 or 10 with CoD4. Just copied the files from disc to hdd and installed from there.

From Evga- "Any customer who is not comfortable performing the recommended VBIOS update, may request a warranty cross-shipment to exchange the product to EVGA for an updated replacement. "

For those of you who have an Evga 1070 or 1080 video card please read;

It's a new era, we want the most we can get and we want it right now

Sure hope that this doesn't trickle down to consumers; http://betanews.com/2016/06/30/windows-10-subscriptions-anniversary-update/

CoD 2,4 & 5 all work on Windows 10

Just tried the downloader and it works good here. Maybe reboot your router?

Like Chill said I would run chkdsk first. If that checks out, burn Memtest .iso and boot from it and check your memory; http://www.memtest.org/

"I guess I will have to bite the bullet and do a clean install of win 10."
Make sure you download the latest version of Windows 10 if your doing a clean install and using your Windows 7 key. If it's not version 1511 or newer it won't work.

As of the Windows 10 November update, (1511), you can now do a clean install and use your Windows 7 or 8.1 key to activate. Ive done this 5 times so far and has worked every time. It will not work though with a volume licence.

Have the same problem with high CPU usage on one of my Windows 7 machines. As soon as I disable Windows update my CPU usage goes back to normal. I'm thinking its because there pushing the Windows 10 update all the time. Just change Windows update to manual start or disable and use off line update.

Running Windows 10 and CoD4 no problems at all. If you want some control over Windows update, get Windows 10 pro. The only thing I hate about Windows 10 is the sound - anything other than onboard audio is problems in Windows 10. Most times the driver will not load with Windows 10 fast boot and if you do get a dedicated card to work the next update will probably nock it out.If your running onboard sound you should have no problems.

This is what I use when I'm reloading Windows 7; http://download.wsusoffline.net/
You can pick the updates you want to download maually, create an .iso file and store it on a thumb drive for future installs, works really well.
