Fucking windows update. A common reported problem is that it is stuck at 0% even if you leave it running all night. Network activity is zero. Yes I did all the usual like checking for malware.
There were a couple MS fixes that were supposed to take care of it. But they dont. On top of that, unless the WU process is manually disabled it takes 1/4 of CPU activity and wont stop. As it is currently. MS had a list of other things to try that included manual WU installs and changes as well as registry hacks. But if that is the fix something is very wrong. In the short term, for the moment, I dont need WU so I am just disabling the service. Also, if no network access (no cable) it wont start either.
However I fear once the new system is built its going to do this with all the post install updates needed and I am screwed. I didnt know this, and thought they fixed it the last time it happened with some update. I had it set as notify but dont install. So when I saw it today I saw the potential problem. Has anyone else installed Windows 7 in the last month and experienced this? I dont know what else to check and am not going to start putting it all together until I know I wont be fucked over by them.
Part of me still thinks they are secretly doing this on purpose to get people to upgrade to win10. But it seems some people having this problem have win10 as well.
