Probably only ones without PB since screwing with player skins would cause checksum mismatches in the files. Otherwise it opens the door to cheating like was common in Unreal with people giving all the enemies neon green skins.
-
Yea I have been looking at that one or the h100 since I have one of the corsair cases with the top opening made for it. I do read that they are somewhat noisy and some replace them with higher qualify fans eventually. But if so that can be done later. I already live with a whining zalman so it would have to be pretty noisy to be worse than that.

wow. sorry but I have a limited budget and its a matter of doing the best I can with what I can afford. I cannot afford a $370 processor when there are many other things I need to get as well. As it is, I am pushing it by going with Intel and all those goodies instead of AMD. But for what I need I preferred Intel so its a matter of making the numbers work so I can do it. Whatever I do, I need a cooler now. Not 6 months from now. Not for overclocking, which I am not going to do. But for the loads associated with development, typical games and video processing. In any case I am still researching options to find a good match. I dont need 'k' processors since no overclocking. So it is not important that boards have the ability either and there look to be some good less expensive choices there as well that will allow me to move some funds around.

Shit. Had this already written out and power went out just before I could hit send. So these are the options I narrowed down for a mid-range with a decent upgrade path some time in the future. Various reviews say both are good. But obviously some do not like the brands at all. Good choices that are reliable, do what they say they will, and wont fail on me within a year or two? http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-LGA1151-Motherboard-Motherboards-GA-Z170X-GAMING/dp/B012IBPPWG ($167) http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-DDR4-Motherboards-Z170-EXTREME6/dp/B012D7H9JC ($173) http://www.amazon.com/Intel-I5-6600-FC-LGA14C-Processor-BX80662I56600/dp/B0136JONRM ($230) http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Boxed-I5-6600K-Processor-BX80662I56600K/dp/B012M8M7TY ($250) http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-2400MHz-PC4-19200-Memory/dp/B00S51XHUQ ($85) http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-PC4-19200-BLS2K8G4D240FSA-BLS2C8G4D240FSA/dp/B00MTSWFMM ($75) One way or another I will have to get a cooler. My current one (2007/2008) might not be compatible with the i5. Also, I do have in the back of my mind whether or not the ps played a role in the other parts failing. That one is only three years old I think. I didnt spend much time looking at h170 boards and if I am certain I wont OC I am sure there are some good ones there that will save me some money for other things.
-
I probably have to get a new cooler anyways. The one I have is many years old, loud, and from what I read the older ones may or may not put too much physical stress on the new processors.
-
Well Im trying to stay within a budget and that extra $120 could instead go towards maxing out memory or a water cooler etc. So its all about tradeoffs and whether or not I would use the extra power of the 6700. At least for the foreseeable future. I guess thats the thing about asking for recommendations. One person could love a particular company's products. Another can hate them and think its products are shit.
-
Yea that one looks pretty good also and only a little bit more. I have been hedging on an i5 6600 or 6600k. But I doubt I will overclock anything so the more expensive one maybe isnt worth it. Use the difference to something else and every little bit helps.
-
Do you do anything that puts the processor on longer term loads like video editing and compression? One of the reasons I am considering this one is because good air cooling requires one of those huge blocks that look like it will snap the mb in two.
-
I tend to stress over all things electronics when deciding what to get. Anyone have any of these or have good knowledge of them? I did a lot of reading. The ones with the higher price are just at the limit of my price range. But the lower priced ones are preferred to apply the savings to a cpu. Most of the time general daily use or typical games. But also some heavy 3D and video work + encoding. http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-DDR4-Motherboards-H170-PRO4/dp/B0148DP41E http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-Motherboards-FATAL1TY-Z170-GAMING/dp/B012D7GXNK http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-DDR4-Motherboards-Z170-EXTREME6/dp/B012D7H9JC http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-LGA1151-Intel-Motherboards-GA-Z170X-Gaming/dp/B012N6E996 http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Motherboard-Z170A-GAMING-PRO/dp/B013TSG7LA/ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B013ALA6T0/ref=twister_B013LGH2HI?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Sucks that one or more things died on me this morning. Could be mem because at one point only 32MB (with an M) posted. If it posted at all. Other times only 2 or 4 gb but windows froze or the screen went black except for the pointer. So that is likely the cause. But its about time for me to upgrade anyways.

How efficient and quiet are those corsair water coolers compared to a good air coolers that are 1/2 the price? The corsair case I have has the place right on top designed for them.
-
Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!! - Eric Cartman Shit. Got the cross-shipment and it doesnt work either. Did everything I could short of taking it completely apart and reseating the cooler. I was hoping not to do that. But reinstalling the cards (using the old amd one again now, still on nvidia drivers so nothing more than basic use) I noticed that the cooler actually looks to be significantly off center. Maybe. So I wonder if I fried the cpu at least a little. Or something else related. However I dont know why that would cause this gpu to not even show posting info while the amd one does. Does explain how within the last couple weeks why cooling didnt seem to be quite as good under moderate to higher loads. Not overheating. Just maybe not enough. Idle is 39. Not great but a little higher than average for this cpu I think. Since I am on a budget I hate spending money if I can upgrade things cheaply. However the cpu/mb/mem are kinda old and already at the upper limits. Assuming something is actually broken I would only be replacing parts in an older system with previous generation parts. I suppose the most cost efficient thing to do would be to upgrade the core components instead of throwing more money at older ones. I dunno. Amazon does have some very nice deals on i5 processors right now. Once I come up with something I will post possibilities, maybe someone has experience with them. But for boards I am leaning MSI or asus, crucial or corsair mem, and a mid range i5. Any suggestions on good mb's? It will need to be beefy enough for some heavy graphics and likely Unreal. Gotta go make dinner but I have already made up a 'worst case scenario' list of possible combinations to purchase so will be going through them again.

I suppose also a good way for a courier to smuggle information.
-
I didnt know win7 home artificially limited it to 8 or 16. To me that sounds like false advertising for getting x64 anyways.
-
Perhaps God is more forgiving of indiscretions than people think.
-
Why do they have to be real wars? At this point maybe invent one as sort of an alternate past. BF-alternate or something like. 1990's UK vs Germany.
-
I have 8gb mem, which is the max the board can handle. I did say it was a bit old. My cooler is the big ass Zalman one that looks like an airplane turbine. I forget the name of it. But then again a lot of them are huge these days. It still works fine I am sure, but it is a bit on the noisy side.
-
Win 7 64 bit will recognize more than 4. So since the screenshot says that it is 64 then it shouldnt be the issue.

Instant flop for their current audience. Might as well ask an 18 year old to watch All Quiet on the Western Front and expect him to be entertained.

This new Battlefield hype starting

Unless its the MW2 mod. Where everything sucks and nobody can hit anything. -
Now thats funny.

Already went through the process so we shall see what they send. The card itself was a gift so I dont have the original invoice. They might have required that. The mb+mem are old by todays standards. The cpu (phII 965 black) is still considered relatively good so it seems. So when budgets are tight might just upgrade those two things to keep costs down. Probably need a new cpu cooler as well.
-
The standard Open Warfare mod will allow this kind of thing but only after you spawn. You will see yourself in third person and you can cycle through the various team skins available on that map. They are different each time because Spetznaz vs SAS skins are not available on Marines vs Opfor desert maps. Or there are sometimes maps with custom team skins, common in snow maps with the white camos.

For the cross-shipment I will have to pay $200 collateral on my card, as they call it. Which is fine so long as I get the money back in a reasonable amount of time after they receive the bad card. Tried a couple other things this morning, just to see if there is any kind of change, but nope. I think the system itself actually boots up because when I put back the amd card win7 said something about an unexpected shutdown after I logged in and the desktop loaded.
-
Their tech support emailed me that so long as they get it back, working or not, then they will refund the money. If it does actually work for some reason they just put it through their recertification process. The step up program expires after 90 days according to the product registration page. Thermal compound is only a few months old. Yea I did the memory thing as well and I would think if my amd card works fine then its unlikely to be memory anyways. I dont do gaming much except cod4 occasionally. Usually modding. I do some short term CPU intensive processes for digital video. But those are not offloaded to the GPU and I watch CPU temps to make sure they dont exceed rated thermal limits. This did make me check out current technologies for mb/cpu/memory. The mb and mem are a bit on the older side. The processor not too bad. The good stuff, but not top of the tine, is a bit pricey for me all at once. I could get an AM3+ board+mem and keep my processor for now. Intel i5's looks nice as always but a bit steep.
