Please Pray for my son Matthew
Update: I apologize for the delayed update. Last update related the frustration and that certain tests were being done and would go from there. Well a lot has happened. The chest x-ray on the 9th showed some thickening so a repeat x-ray was done on the 11th to confirm but it seemed to have added just more confusion so on the 12th the Oncologist ordered a CT. After the CT that is when things became "stat". Oncologist told me that CT showed that the nodules from the 11/2 scan were 2.1mm and maybe 2 of them and the scan showed that they have since increased in size and amount so another bronc wash was going to be done (same as last admissions) and done same day if possible. It wasn't possible so I assumed it would be scheduled for Monday but to my surprise; a happy surprise thinking they were finally taking this seriously, the procedure was scheduled the very next morning. Today at 9am, Matthew went in for a bronc wash. The pulminologist said all went good and he saw no sign of irritation, inflammation or infection so results would be needed. His recovery however did not go as smoothly as the last nor as they had hoped. They were not able to retrieve enough of the fluid pushed into his lungs and so his lungs became wet, his respiratory became very distressed, high heart rate, and for the first time, his oxygen level dropped. They gave him a breathing treatment that didn't seem to improve anything, and pulled a blood gasket to see how distressed he was. The gasket showed that his HBG went from 9.8 to 8.6 in just a few hours. The Oncologist evaluated him and didn't like what they saw and for the first time I was told that "this was bad, his lungs are bad, very bad" and they hope that the wash shows something because if not then a biopsy will be done and he will need to be incubated for it and while he recovers. Saying that the nodules growing as much as they have in such a short time is very concerning. They are watching him closely for the next 24-48 hrs while waiting on the results and hoping for a positive where usually a negative result is prayed for. He has become more stable since this morning and afternoon and resting a lot. He has gotten two transfusions of platelets within 8 hrs and a blood transfusion. Just about an hour ago I met with the Infectious Disease Team and he gave me more insight as to what has become such a concern. It appears the nodules in 9 days went from 2.1mm and only a couple to estimated size of 1.6cm and have multiplied by at least 10. They are changing his anti-fungal (that counteracts with his Dasatnib so it will be hold until further notice) and his antibiotics. They also assured me that unlike last time, that even if he shows improvement with the change in medicine, that if the wash comes back negative, a biopsy will be done. He is no longer comfortable with just going off of how he looks, acts and or fevers are as this is obviously lingering and only way to address it is by knowing what it is. Again, saying it was very bad but giving hope that it's not the worst. ID Team also said that if fungal, likely caught through his blood and not by air / surroundings. So now we wait and let him rest. This is a very scary time but we have finally after 3 months of this, have a direct plan and won't stop until we know what it is and have it addressed so that Matthew can get back to himself. Prayers are still so very much needed. Thank you!!
