Right click on ur screen and goto Nvidia control panel. In the control panel goto Adjust display size and position.

Now set the option to use my displays built in scalling.

This should fix ur problem.

Have the same vid card and had same problem. I increased resolution in the game to 1900x1200 which is the same as my desktop setting, and the problem went away (I have SLI on dual cards

Be sure that either in the COD4 settings or your nvidia control panel settings that the aspect ratio is set to 16:9 or 16:10 ... it sounds like youre getting knocked down to the standard 4:3

The game resolution needs to be set to a resolution with the same aspect ratio of your monitor's native resolution in order to not have black bars.
