Indeed, I suffered pain and injury while serving in Vietnam, but never got a Purple Heart for it. I got drunk and fell down a fire escape along 100 Pi Alley in Saigon. It was called that because you could buy a whore for 100 piasters, about 50 cents American at the time. "Me love you long time..." We had alcohol ration cards on base - a couple brands of liquor and couple brands of beer. But you could walk into any bar along 100 Pi Alley and you'd think you were back home with the black market alcohol and cigs available, right down to Vietnamese bands singing (or attempting to sing) Elvis tunes.
