Not sure is a topic like this is of interest but it was in a previous clan I belonged to. Quotes can often a short interesting read, Here are just a couple:

"I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor.' I will tell you. Place me behind prison walls--walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground--there is a possibility that in some way or another I may escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of the circle? No. Never! I'd die first!"

Alexander Hamilton started the U.S. Treasury with nothing, and that was the closest our country has ever been to being even.

Will Rodgers

A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.

Mark Twain

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.

Winston Churchill

I think this guy is full of shit.. but just my opinion. Maybe I am not getting the context but... number one why would you ever give your honor to never leave a circle... and second he would not die first before leaving... no one would. Food, water, taking a shit or piss.. all factors.

Maybe I am looking at this to deep... I just call bullshit on this quote. :)

Now the Mark Twain... so very true.. heard before.

Well, even hostages get bathroom breaks if needed.....lol.

Anyway as in as many of the older Anglo - French wars officer prisoners could often give their "Parole" which was a pledge not to try and escape or bear arms against their captors. It was a honor pledge and once given the prisoners were usually free to wander around town at their own discretion.

Parole is the agreement of persons who have been taken prisoner by an enemy that they will not again take up arms against those who captured them, either for a limited time or during the continuance of the war.”

Parole agreements are promises given the captor by a POW to fulfill stated conditions, such as not to bear arms or not to escape, in consideration of special privileges, such as release from captivity or lessened restraint.

Once upon a time, in a land far away, "honor" actually meant something.

Does not sound like crap to me, nothing wrong with teaching our children to be the best they can be.
