ini files are usually text file opened with notepad. Apparently you have edited this before? If it's freelancer isn't it 98/ early XP timeframe? Try an older computer.

I 've never seen one with nulls etc. BUT in the hacker world, stuff that needs to be hidden is usually changed to a different non-standard font. google aroung for a plugin for notepad++ that will change the font each time you hit a specified button. Can't remember the name offhand. You'll be able to scrol thru the fonts easily.

If you get notepad++ you can have two colums open with the same document for side by side comparison WITH LINE NUMBERS!!!! No more searching up and down for the text you need to replace.

Hope you get it sorted.

Other thoughts, try to change it to binary then back again. Binary will use the ASCII number to recognize the individual characters and the ASCII numbers are standard across al fonts. The computer doesn't care what font it's reading (like the human eye does). Good luck.

Side note: I don't care where you keep your head!! LOL

cheers for the help guys, biniQDU sounds what i used a few years ago, but its been so long.

yoda, these files were definately weirder than last time :P normal notepad never opened them, which is what most search engines advise you to, and wordpad is another which never worked, tried a few text editors as well, but mainly those things put more junk on my comp so i took em of. i love freelancer, but after completeing the game i went into mods, and the 4th and 2 SO did not go well(in fact not at all), so need to tweak it. bit annoying really

i am not a comp nerd, so it is all new to me, and at 40, new things are something i must think hard about before i decide if i want to waste brain power(what i have left) to learn and try to commit to memory, lol
