Well, it finally happened! Just as I was preparing to get a back up hard drive, my PC just got the "blue screen of death"! So. obviously been missing the action the last couple nights. Odd one, since system seems to work. I've re-formatted the C: drive and re-installed Windows (XP), but still getting blue screen. Says nothing to point to fix, so not sure when I'll be back CryYellCryYell

Heard the site had an issue...was it a virus? This happened day after I saw an adware BS come up trying to get to XI? Anyone else having problems.

DAMMIT! Lost everything...years of email, photos, etc. AHHHHHHHHHH.

Hope to be back soon!!

Can you try slaving that hard drive to another long enough to recover the files. We have done that before.

I have several recover programs that can recover lost files. Do not format it! If you want send me the drive and I will recover the files for you or send me an email and I can send you a link to the programs. I have recovered several computers two were from buisnesses that thought they lost ALL their files from quick books for 3/4 of a year. What a mess. When I got his pc and put it in as a slave the drive showed and emty....NOTHING ON THE DRIVE. I was able to recover almost all his pics and his documents including his quick book files. needless to say I ate free at he store for a long time. Let me know

Thanks for all the help and offers of help. Too late on the format. Already formatted and re-installed Windows XP and still same error. Won't run Windows for fear of "damaging" my PC. Bummer I lost some stuff I wanted to keep, but overall maybe a good thing since most I'll probably never look at again anyway (I'm a "pack-rat" that way). But I will get an external HD to keep valuable stuff in the future. Luckily, most family pics were burnt to DVD...wheeew!  Anyway, my boss, NICKTHE GRIP>XI<, has hooked me up with Windows 7 - will try tonight and hope to be back on battlefiled this weekend. So, hopefully it's smarter than XP and can work around problem - unless it's hardware. Doesn't seem to be, since everything seems to work. Only when it tries to fire up Windows XP does it crap out. I'll try the RAM thing loader, I hadn't thought of that. But did try other vid card, cleaning out dust, disconnecting un-necessary periphials, etc.  Awesome, work blocker is letting me though today Smile  Thanks again!!

Thanks, WiZiD. But not necessary. Besides, it would mean the entire PC and I can't live without it..LOL. I AM BACK! A BIG BIG thanks to Loader - YOU DA MAN! Turns out it was the RAM. Pulled out two 512Meg cards and system worked fine after that. Sadly I lost stuff and wouldn't have had to, but on the other hand my 250G was almost full of a lot of crap I really didn't need. And, as I said, fortunately burned most family pics to DVD.  (Porn is easy to get again!!) Lost some email and few things, but now have a "NEW" super system again (considering its age and just a Gateway) except I'll need to replace that RAM card. I'll need the 2MEG max my system can handle to keep up with you all!! And thanks to boss NICKTHEGRIP>XI<....this Windows 7 seems awesome. Like it already! Next up, get my emal installed, then COD2, Xfire and COD5 installed!!

Maybe see you tonite on the fields....latest tomorrow!! Thanks again to you all!!

Glad to hear it worked out, now if I can just find a hotel with a decent internet connection I can come in there and kick some ass too.

Next time that happens and you think it is the HD, don't format it, give it to me. I have a box (USB Disk Dock)you can drop drives in and it treats them like huge memory sticks, as long as they are SATA drives (I think your might be a tad old to be SATA, but you never know). If it is just the MBR that is crapped out you can pretty much retrieve everything before you format it. If it is a little worse I still have some utilities that can recover data from the drive. At least then you dont have to mail it somewhere, although Wiz's offer is way cool. Laz you can simply give it to me at work. I can get my crap from my storage unit and have your stuff the next day.

Sorry I didnt know what was happening sooner or I would have stopped you.

Well you have an excuse now to load up to Win7, which aint bad
