It is similar in function to the AH-6J, after the Armored Kill patch can now laser paint for the pilot. - Laser Painter http://battlefield.w...i/Laser_Painter A good tactic to use in an attack helicopter, with both a pilot using the laser painter and a gunner using guided missiles is for the pilot to designate enemy vehicles within range and for the gunner to attack those vehicles with guided missiles, one target at a time. The gunner should switch to the automatic cannon while the missile reloads and the pilot engages the vehicles with the helicopter's rockets whilst providing a clear line-of-slight for the gunner. Since the Laser Painter can paint air vehicles, and the guided missile can target painted aircraft, it is possible for attack helicopters to become significantly more effective at disabling and destroying enemy aircraft. The Pilot can engage enemy aircraft with heat-seekers whilst simultaneously designating the aircraft for the gunner's guided missiles. The Pilot fires once to force the enemy aircraft to deploy flares, then whilst keeping lock, fires the second heat-seeker and the Gunner fires the guided missile. If done correctly, this should result in a vehicle disable or destroy. When Laser Painter and Guided Missile are equipped on a Scout Helicopter, it is able to counter IR Flares as it is top attack but can be countered by ECM Jammer. This makes a great combination against air and ground vehicles and allows scout helicopters a versatility not allowed in other airborne vehicles, as it can be an air-to-air combatant and air-to-ground combatant with one person in the vehicle. The Laser Painter does help in Heatseeker work. The Laser Painter locks on like a Heatseeker and paranoid pilots may notice this as a Heatseeker lock and launch flares to try and dismiss. Use this to your advantage. Use the Laser Painter and have the Heatseekers equipped and then wait for the target to dismiss his countermeasures and then once they're gone, your missiles have a free, exposed, disabled aircraft. But do remember that afterwards, they will remember to now use the countermeasures when they hear the missile tracking beeps and not the locking sound. The player who laser designated the vehicle will also receive point corresponding to the amount of damage the vehicle received. Awards
