Of course as always it depends on what something is meant to do and for how many people. I am actually surprised car software is that big. Its just a damn car. What exactly does it have to do that an F-35 doesnt?

Well... the car system has a GPS, Maps and navigation, Media player, Phone and txt system, Blue tooth controls, etc.

That's a lot of subsystems with sizable amounts of code.

Not to mension whatever OS is holding it all together.

The F-35 doesnt have GPS and navigation? A communications sytem? Sensors? Fire control? Threat tracking? An OS? A media player? Ok... maybe not a media player. Maybe.

The F-35 is also programmed by the military (or contractor).  I'm sure they are much more thorough in making the program lite weight and bug proof.

Car makers cram as many features as they can into a product as fast as they can and push it to market.

actually the f-35 would be much larger because it would have to include at least 2 backups to everything

I doubt they are taking that into account.  Same reason they don't add the lines together from multiple jets for the graph.
