August is smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Season for the DR, June 1st to November 30th is Hurricane Season. You MAY go a whole Vacation with no rain or you MAY get caught in something nasty. Every time I go to the DR its usually end of November start of December, and have been lucky with minimal rain days and most being rain over night or in morning and perfect by lunch. That being said, it is tropical climate, rain can come at any time!

Yes true very hot and humid in summer been there in august years ago and much rain was short showers in early evenings,

But didnt had hurricanes...

but actually better time to go there is winter is dry season..  but wet in cervesa y ron
