Things You Can't Do In The States
little_old_man replied to CobraBites's topic in Jokes and Misc stuff
Some of the laws make sense but the narrator fails to say why they are laws. Most states and countries have laws on the books that would make us scratch our heads. -

I can't quite tell what pier you are on but I recognize the ferry terminal on the far left and of course the Embarcadero centers with their holiday lights on. There actually are very small tripods that can fold up and fit in a pocket and they work great for smaller cameras. I have a couple of them around here somewhere. Makes a huge difference when you're taking a longer exposure like you did above. If you and your girlfriend ever find yourselves down near the financial district, go over to Sansome Street and California St. to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, walk through the lobby and take the elevator to the top floor. It's a twin tower hotel with a glass walkway betweent the towers. As I recall the top floor is about 54 stories and the view is unlike anything you'll find in San Francisco. Panoramic views from the Golden Gate bridge to the Oakland Bay bridge, and in back of you all points south. It's one of two five star hotels in SF and there is a restaurant and lounge if you're in the mood. There is no security to get on the elevator although I'm sure people will be watching you on CCTV. -
It turned out great TSW.

Hxtr just wanted me to dress up like John Wayne and beat his bare ass with a cactus. It didn't do much for me but the money was good.

If you're going to hide behind a large piece of furniture with me, touching your bum will be the least of your problems.

Thanks to a lot of hard work by my fellow head COD2 admin Loader, the TDM server is up and running again with many new maps, in particular several new sniper maps. For all of you who play TDM I strongly suggest that you go in and download the new map packs and iron out any glitches before game time this weekend. Loader set up quite a few sniper maps, some of which I've never seen before, so lets go through them all and see which ones we like. Thanks, LOM

Did I miss something? His profile says March 22. It sounds like you found much more to drink than the last cold beer.

Both of my grandfathers were machinists and they both made some amazing things. Both worked in aircraft plants during WWII and I still have a sodium cooled engine valve from a bomber that one of them made. It's become a lost art form today. When I was in high school in the 70's they still had trade schools to train machinists but those days are gone. Not sure where you can learn the craft today. We don't make things any more. We just send the raw materials to other countries so they can make it cheaper and sell it back to us.

The UK according to FOX TV! WTF!!!

Like I said before Ter, I'm all for fair and balanced reporting. While most of the networks do a great job hiding their hositility toward anything conservative, some like MSNBC make no secret of it at all. NBC, CBS and ABC do it covertly, and simply don't report on subjects they feel show democrats in a bad light. In my opinion, that's a lot of shit they just don't want to talk about. As far as I'm concerned, no news outlet has been entirely unbiased since Walter Cronkite retired in 1981. Although privately he was very liberal, his political affiliation stayed behind the scenes and he set the standard for fair and balanced reporting. When the FCC did away with the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, we saw the rise of political specialty shows like Rush Limbaugh and eventually FOX news, and the disintegration of network news into what it is to this day. I never hear anybody complaining about the bias of MSNBC, Rachael Maddow, The View or Jon Stewart/Steve Colbert, and even you have to admit Terry that those are about as left leaning as it gets. -
This guy built a 1/4 scale 308 from scratch over the course of 4 years. He machined the heads and block out of aluminum. The first few minutes shows him starting it for the first time, and the last half of the video shows him putting it together. Fun to watch if you're a motor head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trYTHwha28s#t=1051

The UK according to FOX TV! WTF!!!
little_old_man replied to DEEJAYKEG's topic in General Discussion
Terry you seem to know a lot about FOX. You must be a big fan. I'm always amazed how people who seemingly hate FOX and Rush Limbaugh know more about them than I could ever hope (or want) to know. Everything I wrote above was derived from several sources online, none of which were FOX. The part about the lost emails being recovered came from the NY Daily Times. Feel free to point out which parts of what I said were incorrect. -

Let's look at the IRS fiasco. Lois Lerner who was the director of Exempt Oganizations for the IRS was specifically targeting right leaning organizations for excess scrutiny for tax exempt status while allowing left leaning organizations to pass through with no questions asked. When Congress caught wind of this they immediately requested copies of Lois Lerner's emails for the last several years. As soon as a subpoena was issued, the IRS notified Congress that the emails were lost as there was no back-up. Keep in mind that this is a .gov email server with thousands of back-ups every day, so it was obvious to everybody that the emails were deleted to cover something up. So what's new you ask? Well, in November of 2014 (less than 8 weeks ago) federal investigators recovered over 30,000 emails to and from Lois Lerner that Congress was previously told were unrecoverable because of a crashed computer that wasn't backed up for some strange reason. So far according to some leaks, there are a number of requests from the department of justice to specifically target tea party and other republican groups. Of course the DOJ is headed up by Eric Holder, Obama's hand-picked henchman who also spearheaded operation Fast & Furious. So why wasn't the recovery of these emails in the news anywhere other than FOX and a few other obscure media outlets? None of the major networks, Huffington Post, hell not even Comedy Central said a word about it. -

So then who is qualified to critique a news outlet? Politifact tends to be unbiased much of the time and is about as neutral as you'll find. Of the other examples offered by boomboom, if you do a Google search on them they all lean heavily to the left (especially alternet which makes no secret of their bias), and what they report on is rarely questioned. So is it fair that they report on polls pertaining to a competitor with different political ideologies? My biggest complaint about ALL of the major news outlets is not what they report but rather what they don't report. More than anything else, people get pissed off at FOX because they report on things the other networks simply won't talk about, and in my opinion that's anything which makes Democrats look bad. Examples for me would be the "lost" IRS emails of Lois Lerner, lending billions to green energy companines that are now bankrupt, operation fast & furious, and the US trademark office arbitrarily removing trademark protection for the Washington Redskins. Everthing I know about these events was learned from the web, and most of it originated from FOX. Nobody else would touch it. In particular, every available detail of the IRS scandal should be brought to the attention of the American public but simply isn't being reported. Why is that? -

You forgot one, Politifact. Read the entire article if you want a breakdown. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jun/20/jon-stewart/jon-stewart-says-those-who-watch-fox-news-are-most/ "On the June 19, 2011, edition of Fox News Sunday, comedian Jon Stewart -- host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central -- sat down for an interview with Chris Wallace. Many readers asked us to review one of his claims. "Who are the most consistently misinformed media viewers?" Stewart asked Wallace. "The most consistently misinformed? Fox, Fox viewers, consistently, every poll." Wallace didn’t challenge Stewart’s assertion that Fox -- widely perceived as a conservative-leaning network -- produced more misinformed viewers. But we thought it was an assessment worth checking." "The way Stewart phrased the comment, it’s not enough to show a sliver of evidence that Fox News’ audience is ill-informed. The evidence needs to support the view that the data shows they are "consistently" misinformed -- a term he used not once but three times. It’s simply not true that "every poll" shows that result. So we rate his claim False." -

Which is exactly how we feel in the US when media outlets portray what they call "out of control police shooting unarmed people in the streets" and race riots in every city coast to coast. I know it's only a handful of people DJ. That was the point I was attempting to make. ALL media outlets feel that they need to sensationalize stories in order to get the highest ratings. The problem I have is that people feel FOX is the only news organization making mistakes. Everyone else gets a free pass. -

Steven Emerson is also a frequent contributor on C-SPAN, MSNBC and NBC. Had his comments aired on any of those media outlets would we be discussing this now? I seriously doubt it. -

This is the kind of stuff we see happening in England. The UK according to FOX TV! WTF!!!
little_old_man replied to DEEJAYKEG's topic in General Discussion
I don't watch FOX ever, but I know that they have a huge reputation for reporting things that other news outlets won't report on because it's not politically correct. The guy in the video (Steven Emerson) is a person they interviewed is a self proclaimed terrorism "expert" that's written several books on the subject. Obviously he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about and has since apologized for the comments according to BBC news. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-30773297 If this guy was intereviewed on BBC, NBC, CBS or MSNBC, he would just be an idiot. But since he was on FOX he must be part of that news organization? How does that make sense? I find my news from various sources on the internet and choose to form my own conclusions on what is legitimate and what is complete bullshit. As an example, as I sit here typing this the only thing on all of the network news is who won a Golden Globe award last night, as if nothing else happened in the world over the last 24 hours and this is something important. What the rest of the world sees on their news about the US is even worse. If you were to take what they show as the truth, every US citizen should be in fear for their lives when they are confronted by a police officer, and black people are rioting in every US city, looting stores and burning buildings to the ground. FOX news is just another media outlet, nothing more and nothing less. They are the most popular according to ratings and that makes them a target for scrutiny. In politics there are hundreds of polling services including polls taken by every news network. Most are taken with a grain of salt and none are accepted as the final word on what the outcome of any event will ultimately be, and yet when some professor in a small New Jersey university polls a handful of people and proclaims that FOX news viewers are the least informed, it becomes the absolute truth. What makes this professor such an expert? The poll and the survey questions were long ago discredited, but that matters little to people who have a hardon for anything that sheds a bad light on FOX. Try to stay objective when viewing anything that is reported as "news". These outlets (all of them) try to create news, not simply report it. It's up to us to figure out what's bullshit and what is the truth. PS: There are those who live in Birmingham who agree with what the guy said on FOX. These two gentlmen as an example. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=306_1421078175 -
I don't make home brew but my nephew does. He started only 5 years ago and won second place in the county last year, and we have hundreds of micro breweries around here including a little one you may have heard of called Lagunitas Brewing Co and their famous IPA, as well as Russian River Brewing Co which makes a seasonal brew called Pliny the Elder which has gained a reputation around the world. He grows his own hops and bottles everything in standard brown bottles and caps them himself. He sterilizes the bottles much the same way people prepare canning jars in a hot water bath. Other than than I don't know much else about the process. He makes mostly IPA's which I don't drink much of, but from what I understand those who do say it's the best.

It was a lot of fun. Thank you to everybody that participated, and to Loader for setting it up on the COD2 server. And a special congratulations to DeathWaveUK for his "special" acheivement on the COD2 server.
