They aren't perfect Sparty, but Obama constantly whining that he can't get anything done because of the Republicans in congress is what I mean by "in check". If the dems controlled the house and senate, damn near everything Obama thinks of would be law, so in that respect things are still working somewhat as they should be. The day Obama stops whining is when we should all be very afraid.

DJ the US is still a long way from totalitarianism. Granted, the current administration has put us closer to it than any before, but we still have 2 political parties that keep things in check regardless of how dysfunctional things look to the rest of the world. When a single political party gains control of all branches of government and the other party has no hope of regaining power, then what you describe will be much more likely.

Color negatives have an orange mask over them that helped with the process of printing them onto photo paper, but that mask makes them almost impossible to do right on a scanner because you have to manually adjust all of the colors with editing software. Old color developing equipment did it automatically. Digital photography really isn't that expensive. In fact it's quite a bit cheaper than 35 mm in the long run. Photo editing software for your PC is fairly cheap and all you need is a decent printer and you can make really good prints. I've been using the same HP printer for almost 8 years and it works great. The most expensive part is the paper and color cartridges, and you can find sales at retailers or get good prices online if you look around.

I prefer ripping one in the middle of a grocery store isle, then hanging out at the end of the isle watching other people enjoy it.

I just heard about this for the first time a few days ago DJ. I couldn't believe it was happening in a modern western society, seemingly with the blessing of the government who refuses to take any action to stop it for fear of looking racist. I know the rest of the industrialized world finds personal gun ownership and the high death rate by guns in the US horrible, but if something like this was happening here, our well armed population would be taking matters into their own hands by dishing out some street justice. If a group of immigrants (or anybody else) gang raped one of mine, I would not stop until every one of the offenders was dead, regardless of the consequences for me.

It's funny, the problems DJ describes sound an awful lot like the US. Why just yesterday the UN condemmed police brutality in the US, obviously refering to the death of the unarmed black man in Missouri. Nevermind that the 18 year old man had just committed a strong armed robbery of a store and beat the holy shit out of the cop before the cop shot him. Of course the UN must believe witness accounts that the boys were just minding their own business walking down the street, and the cop shot him dead for no reason as he tried to give up. Yeah, I'm sure there are tons of racist cops running around that would shoot somebody for no reason and throw their carreer away and go to prison for murder. Funny how they say very little about the ethnic/religous cleansing happening in all corners of the Muslim world, or the fact that almost 79% of people in European prisons are ethnic/racial minorities, especially France where 75% of all prisoners are Middle Eastern even though they make up about 12% of the population. Racial and ethnic tensions are high all over the world right now, not only in the US.
