Sanctions only work if "all" countries follow them. Russia suffers from the same problem as we do, mismanagement of what money they have, only they have a lot more corruption over there. They also dump a lot more of their GDP into making weapons and bolstering the military. The EU gets most of their natural gas from Russia and I seriously doubt if Europe is willing to live without heat and much of its electricity to save the Ukraine. Russia has Europe by the balls and both sides know it. The US on the other hand produces our own natural gas, and is finally producing more oil than we import, so if we absolutely had to we could tell OPEC to fuck off and still survive.

Responsibility for this fiasco falls directly into Russia's lap. The EU and/or Nato need to put up or shut up and help the Ukraine out. The world has been bitching about the American war mongers for decades. Let's see how they handle the bullies at their own doorstep while the US sits on the side lines. My guess is that nothing will happen and the Ukraine will no longer exist in the months to come and become part of Russia. Europe will throw a hissy fit and then do absolutely nothing. Kind of like when Hitler took Poland and Austria, and everybody thought that would be the end of the hostilites. We all know how well that worked out for the world. The world is ripe for another world war. Anybody who thinks it could never happen again is just fooling themselves. China and Russia are flexing their muscles, and much of the Islamic world hate anybody and everything having to do with western society. The world is a scary place right now. In some ways much more so than before WWII.

The recorders are useless at this point. We know that a missle downed the plane and it happened so quickly the people in the air didn't know what hit them. Most commercial jets don't have early warning systems for incoming missles (except in Israel and Air Force 1) so all the recorders will show is that everything blew up. I read yesterday that as far as they can tell, the missle was fired from practically right on the Russian border with Ukraine and the jet crashed 20 miles from the border, so whoever fired the missle had to know it wasn't a Ukraine military plane because it wouldn't have been flying toward Russia at 33,000 feet. The people who fired it had to know it was a commercial plane with civilians. I also read that 60 other commercial jets flew threw the same corridor that same day, so it wasn't like the rebels didn't know there were civilian jets flying over.

That's not video of the Malaysian flight. See my earlier post. The wreckage of the Malaysian flight was spread over 25 square miles, so it broke apart from the missle impact and fell to the ground in pieces.

Many countries have that technology. The BUK missiles used to shoot down the jet were developed by the Soviets in the late 1970's and are still used today by Russia and dozens of countries they supply arms to, including the pro-Russian seperatists in the Ukraine.

Within 20 minutes of the plane being shot down, Russian news was bragging about the great victory of the seperatists who they "thought" had just shot down a Ukraine military transport. Then there is a video of an intercepted transmission between a Russian general talking to a seperatist commander explaining that the wreckage proved it was a civilian plane and how fucked up it all was. Within an hour Russia was blaming the Ukrainian government for shooting down the plane, this even though the missle was shot from territory held by the seperatists. I get much of my information from Liveleak.com. Unless you have a strong stomach, I don't suggest you watch the video there. They don't edit anything, and they show the wreckage with the bodies, which is why I don't put links up for their web site here. Russia is quietly invading former Soviet held land and trying to topple the Ukrainian government so they can annex the entire country. Other than imposing more sanctions against Russia which do almost nothing, the rest of the world is too cowardly to stop Russia from getting what they want. The plane disaster will be swept under the rug within a couple weeks then it will be back to business as usual for Russia and their takeover of Ukraine.

There have been warnings issued for commercial flights in that region since April. I guess Malaysian Airlines felt the shorter route and fuel savings was worth the risk. Fucking idiots. Here is a screen shot I just took of all commercial flights in that part of the world. Looks like eastern Ukraine is pretty quiet "now".

Dayton, Getting video of people who you suspect are hacking is the right thing to do and we hope that you all continue to do it. BUT, what you are absolutely certain is hacking won't always be clear in the video, or the admin team may not agree with your opinion. Admins can and do make decisions without the approval of the head admins, so don't automatically assume that your video has been shared with the entire admin team for that server. Posting on the forums about how you think the admins should be doing their job won't help matters. Yes, "part" of the admins job is to police the servers for hackers, and another part of our job is to tell people who scream "hacker" every time a player beats them to STFU and be patient. If somebody is hacking we'll eventually get them, regardless if you feel we're doing our job quickly enough or not.

I think the pro-Russian rebels shot it down and are now back-tracking to deny any responsibility because Putin is throwing a hissy fit. One of the rebel units tweeted a picture of a captured BUK-M1 missile system last month, then deleted their tweet just today. Now they're trying to deny that they have this technology even though they've shot down a number of Ukraine military aircraft with them over the last few weeks.
