Bexx got a reaction from StormCrow in Thank you Mr. Taxman :D
I know most of the time people moan about the tax man stealing all their monies, however, a couple of weeks ago I received a lovely letter. It was from Revenue and Customs telling me I had paid too much tax and was due a refund, so a cheque would follow. The next day I received a cheque for.....drum roll please...£595.20!!!
Now when I have told my family about this I received responses such as, "Oh well that's good timing," and, "That will come in handy." You see I have just had an operation and have been on sick leave for about 4 weeks, and as my work don't offer sick pay I have been on 'statutory sick pay', which basically means I only get paid £87 a week. Also, 2 days after my operation my husband was let go from his job, as he was employed through an agency and was no longer required. So, basically this month we are due some anal probing from our bills, which means that it is really good timing to receive the cheque.
My response....screw the bills, I need a new PC!
Over the past year I have saved up a couple of times to buy a new pc but always ended up having to use it to pay for bits and bobs around the home. At the moment I am playing on a gaming laptop, which I bought before I got married as I having to choose between going to my boyfriend's to see him, or staying at home to play, so a laptop seemed a good solution. Now the laptop started off fantastic as it could run BF3, but as the months have gone by it has gotten slower and slower (probably with all the sims3 expansions I have and the fact that I haven't reformatted in...forever). It still plays things ok but can get laggy at times.
Now I know a lot of people out there would say it would be best to use the money to pay bills and then save for a new pc, but I know for a fact it won't take us too long to get our accounts back in order but then take an eternity to save up for a pc. Plus, once I have my pc I can sell my laptop, which I would imagine I could get at least £200 for, which would be a bit of a help towards our bills.
Anyway, I put my cheque into the bank today and will be ordering my pc as soon as it clears, so will hopefully be up and running on my new sexy beast within the next 2 weeks. Now most of you have probably got bored and haven't got this far, but hey-ho. I'm just so excited about FINALLY getting a new pc and...well...I've got to get my 20 posts in somehow
Feel free to give me some lovely comments to respond to

Glad to hear he is getting better and is home. There are so many infections going around in hospitals home is probably best for him. Also it can be depressing sitting in hospital so at least he can relax at home where he feels comfortable. Keep your chin up anyway, surely they wouldn't send him home if he was in any danger

Well my husband has put one together for me on some website that builds them for you. I think we could probably buy it all separately and put it together ourselves but we have a group of his friends coming to our house for a mini-lan in August. So would rather pay a bit extra to have it put together for me and have it working, than put it together ourselves and risk hitting some problems and not having it ready in time. So as far as knowing what's in the pc....I don't but my husband does haha. He's shopped around for the best deal, I've just got to wait for the cheque to clear so I can pay for it
