AVG has no real time scanning, you can have a virus and it can propogate for hours before it runs its scheduled scan, thus disabling AVG itself before it scans. AVG = (get a real A/V solution)! LOL very nice sig snafu!

OK StormCrotch, if you take the cover off yer case the capacitors look like this- The tops should be smooth and flat, these are bulging (blistering) and that means leaking. Not good, there were alot of cheapo capacitors going round in the last couple years and they were like a time bomb waiting to go off. So you can inspect yours visually and see if you have any. As far as the power supply it was probly $30 and it means it will actually only reach 300W once in its life, kinda like the cheapo amps you could buy for your car stereo that said 500 watts but were dogcrap lol. Power supply are pretty cheap lately so no problem upgrading there, but if one of your capacitators blows reguardless it will send a voltage spike through your system. It may just take your M/B or the CPU too and some times will corrupt files on your Hard Drive with the improper shut down. Just remember your local guy wants to sell you more shit, you(we) can decide if you really need it.

I had it all the time too, until about two weeks ago. I downloaded the newest Nvidia drivers and they had an option to delete old drivers and custom configs. After that I never seen it again. Besides that I didnt change anything, except now I can run the game at higher settings and it runs much smoother.

I have two suggestions- One: If you want to keep your PC clean and dont want to bog it down go to portableapps.com or liberkey.com both install on on a flash drive and dont leave anything behind when you exit. (except for the flash dive boot up logs) I can use Ccleaner, registry, defrag tools, run Linux, p2p, IM, open exel or word files and more start a web or ftp server and best of all you dont need a flash drive- you can install it to a folder on any drive, hell it can even run a web server off a cd( (cant update it though (cant hack it either)) lol. If you do put it on a usb stick its a bit slower but goes to any pc u put it in. Firefox with favs etc goes with you. Two: Download midget porn its a much smaller DL

Well I see too many things to try Googling for COD 4 corrupted file/memory I wouldnt know where to start. I see some say it is FRAPS if you have it, others say its a corrupted iw3mp.exe error and some say memory. Maybe see if any of those apply to your situation. Maybe try getting the iw3mp.exe off your cd and then redo the 1.7 patch I cant remember but I thought you could skip the 1.6, maybe one of the patches was botched? PS no guarantees lol, just a thought.

Well I agree it is frustrating, but I do not know how you would ever manage it. Should you disable the +activate too? Keybinds and macros are for people to set, and I know there have been complaints before and it was decided it was acceptable. Fair play suggests you should use it also (though I will not).
