AVG's paid offering is actually pretty good (AVG Internet Security 2011), and their firewall is right up there. Once I set the rule for PunkBuster, it worked just fine. I just spent 3 or so hours on the WAW Vietnam FT server and no issues. Now that I have a fresh install and everything works smoothly, I'll use Acronis and make a clean image that I'll archive in case I have to recover my system to a new drive. If that is ever needed, I can be back up and running in under an hour.

I think I may have fixed it. PunkbusterA was set up with a firewall rule (AVG Firewall on my PC); PunkBusterB was not. i added a rule and I just played for a few minutes with no issues. I hope this solved it.

Ok, ran GameBooster and I got into the game no problems. However, after a couple of minutes, I got a PunkbusterB communication error. I looked at my services, and only PunkBusterA is running. I need to figure how to get Punkbuster B happening.

...and after getting into a Modern Weapons match (i added the game ports to my router's firewall), the game hung at a map change. I went back in, and there was a Punkbuster communications failure. WTF is going on here?!?

I also re-installed my video driver.

Thanks for the replies guys. I already ran Punkbuster. CODWAW hangs when I start it, before I go online. Good call on the ports Deerhunter. I may try that as a moment ago, after finally getting it to run, it couldn't connect again to the online services. Now I can't get in to the program at all. Fuck. I finally have me a relatively kick-ass machine for playing the game and I can't even play it.

Damn it all to Hell! It's doing it again. I played for a bit, then left. I try and start the game now and it hangs on start-up.

Hi RickJames, Thanks for the suggestions. I took a gamble and I deleted all of my maps and re-downloaded. Looks like that did the trick for no reason that's obvious to me.

Hi guys, I was playing COD WAW last night for a few hours, no problems. Early this afternoon, I launched the game, again no problems. Before I began to play, I recalled an earlier email from one of the gang that let me know that there were new maps in the rotation. I exited the game and ran the >XI< downloader. Since then, most of the time the game hangs on a black screen. The arrow cursor is there and I can move it, but that's it. The two times that I made it past it, I couldn't access the online services to get my account info (name, rank etc). The last time it eventually let me in, but PunkBuster kicked me out twice because it could not communicate with the PB server. I just did a fresh install of the OS and the game on Friday night when I installed a new SSD boot drive, so the OS, game, and Punkbuster installs are fresh. Trying to load the game in Safe Mode produces the same results. Help!!!

LaRSin not worth the hassel , faster to reinstall , just remember to backup everything you want to keep .. including prifiles Faster to reinstall the OS and all applications, game backups etc than restoring an image?!? Thinking not...

There's a chance that you can clone it. I use Acronis backup which does an image-based backup. It claims that you can then restore that image to different hardware and it will handle the migration properly. I haven't had to do this yet, but I have clients who have successfully done it.

Hi folks, I had two animated avatars in my list of uploaded files. Just after the holiday I logged in and I had no avatar. i just got around to putting one back as my avatar and I see that both animated ones that I had are now gone from my list. Did we do some house cleaning over the Xmas break, and if so, what was the criteria for deletion? Cheers, - Astronomer

What Xtreme said. Though, based on what you have for a processor, it seems that your system is relatively new, though I wouldn't discount the power supply being the culprit just yet. I'm thinking the video card is overheating, as others have suggested. I have 2x EVGA GTX 550 TI's and two nights ago I forgot to crank up the fans before the game. I usually idle them at about 50%. Mid game, the system abruptly shut off. Turning up the fans to 95% ensured that no further shutdowns occurred. Your video card should have utilities available to regulate fan speed either manually or automatically based on temperature thresholds.

OK! The 1.5-1.6 Patch downloaded from >XI< worked! I'll run the last one after work today. Thanks all!

Labob Are your patches in a zip file ? Some were some weren't. I extracted the installers from the zipped files and they executed but the last one crapped out with the error.

Hmmm...the >XI< downloader crapped out twice now. I'll keep trying.

Damn! Getting the same error now on the 1.5-1.6 patch, and the disk is in the drive. Unbelievable!

Hi Beers, I tried that download, and there were errors with it. However...Paperman's suggestion of keeping the install DVD in the drive worked!!! Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. This is why >XI< rocks. I sincerely appreciate all of the help here. Now I can get my ass fragged secure in the knowledge that it's really my (lack of) skill and not my PC that's the problem! :-)
