adwcleaner only found two things, both for chrome. ask.com and one of the others. I never use it anyways unless there is something specific it does that the others cannot.

Yea I have adblock. I will try adwcleaner. I dont do flash and it isnt enabled. Need flash? I dont go there. I will check out secure thumb drives. Sounds like a good idea.

Shit shit shit... I was doing some internet searching looking for home heating repair companies in the area. One place, a reputable one, on the main page had text/link inserts that would take you to all kinds of bad sites. Inserts like 'lesbian porn' or stuff about meds. The usual. It seemed to be the only page/website that had it. On firefox no less. Paranoid that I am when it comes to internet safety I shut all programs down and am now running every av/mallware program I have. Since I was working on my neighbors computer the last couple days to clean things it worried me. However her computer was never on the network (before cleaning) at the same time as mine. I also never used a usb thumb drive. Just burned cd's. There is a usb encloure on the network but it also was password protected. I will be scanning that anyways. First av scan and first mallware scan didnt find anything on the pc. Now running a different mallware program. Needless to say I wont be going back to that website again. Maybe they got hit with something. Ugh.

Flash has vulnerabilities anyways so best left off.

$30 isnt bad if it will do a fresh win7 install. I think the majority of the stuff she got in the past before learning safer practices was via email and clicking attachments. Ran twice, each, avast+mallwarebytes+windefender to look for stuff. The boot avast check did find a huge number of things. Maybe in email archives. Tomorrow I think I will try an online scanners like bitdefender. I assume avast would look for rootkits.

Ok we need a nice thread that stays away from politics. So. What items are you hoping go on sale to pick up for Black Friday? If I can get the cash I am debating between an ipad air 2 or an nvidia shield. Both are around $300 retail. Throw in various goodies for both and it will easily go up. Then again, every time I look at them I am reminded of bills to pay.

Whenever there are crashes and the black screen give msgs please post them to help troubleshoot. But yea seatown should be fine.

I guess another reason why win10 sucks. I have been trying to use a usb network stick to get on the internet to update stuff. But, netgear says they dont maintain win10 drivers because ms does things their own way. I dont have access yet for a wired connection because its too far away. Pain in the ass to unplug it all and move it. And I dont want to screw with the existing network settings. Device manager says its there. Driver is there. But nothing on network settings. So going to try again. Did I say I hate win10? Anyways, seems some time in the future she will be getting a tablet. I recommended an inexpensive samsung or something since its just for email and internet. So getting this pc running would probably just be for a short term thing and linux is still looking better. So long as att uverse doesnt fuck with things.

Actually after checking further I think its fine hardware-wise. Another thing is that her original win7 oem install disks are gone and the recovery partition is not good. So currently have it back up and running with a restore point but no way to reinstall anything if needed. Cant go back to win7. No win10 install disk. She is in her 70's and now and then gets hit with malware. Long story about the trials and tribulations of being on the internet. I was considering just moving her to a good and simple linux distro. Also its a matter of lack of funds. She is on ss. I am right across the street so if anything goes wrong I am a phone call away. Just have to make sure it all works with uverse. And yes I dont like dell either. However many parts companies eventually stop making drivers when ms comes out with their latest and greatest.

The first is a 1055. Anyways, one problem with getting new boards is that oems also tend to have built in backplates that cant be replaced. Also, likely one of the reasons there were some issues in the past was because ms in its wisdom automatically updated to windows 10 without actually asking dell whether or not it should. They will only support win7 with this particular model so no new drivers.

On an unrelated matter if I were to take a dell or some other oem, wipe the drive and install retail windows or linux, would it care? Or would the hardware/bios require the recovery partition and such?

A neighbor needs computer repair. Its only about 5 years old. I think its just the mb that went out. What kind of products are still compatible with this one that dont cost a fortune? I looked around and there is nothing but used items.

Wow. Made a long post about this and its gone. Strange. Anyways, anyone use one of those snes controller to usb adapters? I have a 3rd party one that is basically a heavy-ish arcade like controller. A joystick and 6 buttons. I would like to use it for mame instead of having to buy a new one to save some money.

Evenbalance neither provides nor supports the legacy files. The community does. We are just lucky they havent done something that actually makes these files no longer work.

I read somewhere that they check for things like that on bag searches and wont let food in for safety reasons. Especially water. They dont want to get hit with a problem because someone brought poisoned water and emptied it somewhere. Unless there is a special dietary requirement that they must know about ahead of time.

Ah yes I remember the days of the E ticket back when I was a kid. Went there in 2006 for a few days on a vacation. Each day a different park. Probably the movie studio park was the best. The magic kingdom was just too crowded. But one of the days it rained a bit. Still pretty warm out tho. There was a small tropical storm near I think. Spent another 1/2 day at the magic kingdom and it was great. Most people didnt go. Small lines on all the great rides. Epcot was cool. Much more low key and not so full of kids. Thought about going for another vacation this year but it just cost too much when you factor in things like air travel and the high price of the tickets especially if you want to park hop. And you are a captive audience when it comes to things as simple as food and water. Totally expensive. For that kind of money I could take a short trip to Japan. Which would be a much more interesting trip. If I got some language skills back so I could at least get around.
