Welcome to the forums! Make sure you keep posting. Just post something an Idiot would be interested in, that’s open to interpretation.

And that would be 1 more than me! Just saying

As odd as life is? I can’t judge! Even idiots want to identify with a little pussy now and then.

Weed's Dad Celebrates His 90th Birthday
WeednFeed replied to WeednFeed's topic in General Discussion
Thanks everyone for all the kind words. He just keeps on fighting a good fight. The nurses in dialysis are always telling him he’s too young looking to be 90 lol, they keep tormenting and teasing him, he loves the attention. He had a new fancy shirt on the other day and one of those fiery nurses told he looked like a PIMP, he laughed his head off. He told everyone at the party. -

For all of you that have followed my dad's journey over the last little while, here is an update. Today Dad celebrated his 90th Birthday. We are so blessed to have him make this milestone. Over the last 2 years he has really been through a lot of health issues. Many times we thought we were going to loose him. He is a real fighter. He is stable and after congestive heart failure and receiving a pace maker/defibrillator, Kidney failure/Dialysis, breaking his hip and breaking it again. All my siblings are here to celebrate. He was moved to tears and while trying to express how much he loves us all. I won't admit that most of us had tears as well. When you are raised by a such a GREAT man it is impossible not to be emotional. Many of his grandchildren and several of his Great Grandchildren were here to shower him with hugs and kisses. The Love of Family gives him the strength to continue his journey. We had some great Lebanese meals over the last 3 days! It is with great pride I call him Dad. If you love someone tell them before it is too late. Wayne

A Nobel prize in the offing for our very own Budman
WeednFeed replied to RobMc's topic in Jokes and Misc stuff
I personally hate raccoons! I would kill everyone of them if I could. I really don't care if they stay in the woods but those little shits that eat 1 bite out of every corn I grow or the ones that break into my pigeon coop and kill everything really piss me off. The those ones that break, tear and chew through my garbage containers really upset me. I have a bit of a raccoon cemetery in my yard! Or do I? What really makes me mad are those SNOWFLAKES that feed those dam raccoons, encouraging them to seek food around dwellings, not REAL SMART THING TO DO. -
Going to the Credit Union today funny CU’s are mentioned in this post. I’ll be negotiating a better interest rate for our RRSP an TFSA accounts. If you don’t negotiate you won’t get a better deal. My ace in my sleeve is another CU has better rates and have a certain amount of GIC to transfer from elsewhere, so negotiating will be in their court

Legally here in Canada I can plant 4 plants for myself and the wife BUT we are not into that. I’m sure it can be a great hobby for some.

I keep my vehicles from 13-18 years. I buy new so I know what hasn’t been done to it. When I worked for a living a younger fellow was leasing every 3 years. He says to me why don’t you get a nice new truck? He told me he just leases his. I asked how much his lease was, I said never mind, let’s say you are paying $400 a month every month for 8 years that’s $38,400 dollars over 8 years. I said I haven’t had a vehicle payment for 8 years and I have my $38,400 in my bank and someone else has yours. He had a really sick looks on his face. I sold my 2002 pickup in December 2019, no payment for 14 years. We had a Honda civic for 15 years and gave to our daughter who drove it for 2 years. We bought a second hand 2004 Honda Civic in 2014 for $5000. It now has 136,00 km that’s 84,500 miles. it’s 18 years old. Got the oil changed at Mr Lube last week one of the guys wants to buy…not happening lol. Buy new keep it, do responsible maintenance and keep your money in your pocket. As the vehicle ages to about 12-15 years I will do about $2500 maintenance per year if it continues to increase I dump them.

Yes we fry them. They make a great pesto, so I’ve been told. Next year someone has asked for some for pesto.

Very nice! Here in eastern Canada I'm in zone 5b only because I'm near the coast the farther inland the zones change to 5A and 5. I plant the first week of June and the garden is finished September October. I start my onions in March, tomatoes and peppers in April, squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe and watermelon in May. This year I started some of my corn in May. I will have 3 staggered harvest dates. First time experiment.

Yes I have a big deer problem! I use 2 different electric fences. In the garden picture you can see the white electrified tape. this has 2 sets of fencing about 3 feet apart. the outer fence has 1 ribbon about 3 feet high the inner fence has 2 ribbons at 18 inches and 4 feet. the deer can jump it but the 3 dimensional look of it confuses them so they approach the fence with caution and put their nose on he outer fence and take a hit some folks put aluminum foil on the outer fence and smear it peanut butter or apple flavor to attract the deer then get shocked. my other garden has a 6 foot high single fence. The deer can jump this too but I stagger the steel, ribbon and nylon twine with the ribbon at about 3 feet high. Again this white electrified ribbon is a visual queue to the deer making them approach it and touch it with their nose. So far I have been very lucky and all the deer have stayed away from the gardens for 3 years. The E fence controllers put out 3-10,000 volts! One is both battery or 120 volts the other is just 120 volts

@SGTSmeg you asked a question about growing garlic. I grow the Hard neck variety called Music. Hard neck have fewer but larger cloves per bulb. They(Hard neck) have a woody stock in the centre. They are more hardy in colder, northern areas and tend to last longer. Depending on location and severity of winter HN are planted in the fall 2-3 weeks before the ground freeze’s. This allows the garlic clove to set roots. HN garlic must go through a cold dormant spell before sprouting in the very early spring. HN garlic can withstand diverse soil types but really loves a soil with a lot of organic matter. Most garlic plantings benefit from a thick layer of mulch when planted. The mulch alleviates multiple freeze thaw cycles which will damage the new developing roots. I live 2 miles from the coast and experience several drastic freeze thaw cycles most winters. Therefore I use a very thick mulch, I even have to hold the mulch down with weighted wire fence material or it will blow away. HN garlic produce a flower step called a scape. The scapes should be removed allowing the garlic to concentrate on bulb development rather than flowering. The flower turns to a thing called bulbils. Bulbils can be planted but it would take 2-3 years to propagate bulbs of an size. Garlic must be dried out of the sun with good air circulation for 2-3 weeks. This allows the nutrition from the leaves to be drawn into the cloves. Once dried the roots and stocks should be cut off the dirt can be rubbed off not washed as water will promote rot. One of the thin skins should be removed allowing for a very clean pristine garlic bulb. Here are a couple of pictures from last year’s crop after being cleaned up. If anyone has a few questions I’ll try and answer.

More 2022 garden pictures! I’ll have to take some pictures of the other garden later today. Squash, Watermelon, and corn.

After last years 90% garden loss due to flooding, deer and Colorado potato Beatles 2022 is showing great potential. My Garlic harvest has been a great success. If you are wondering what the heck I’m doing growing so much food? I just enjoy gardening! I love sharing with family, friends, neighbours and anyone who visits. I particularly love sharing with people needing a little help. Some days I make up little packages and deliver them to my senior relatives. It’s always nice to help out the local soup kitchens. Nothing goes to waist. I love canning string beans, tomatoes and things. My onions and potatoes last 4-6 months, the garlic lasted from August last year until June this year….we ran out I gave too much away lol. Enjoy the pictures, share your photos of anything you’ve grown. Big or small we’ll love them all.

The weather was too hot! I saw 2 for 2 seconds. Couldn't get my gun up! Viagra wouldn't of helped! When we get skunked we say we had a great time enjoying being out doors with nature. Sadly I didn't bring any nature home to eat.
