Had Dr.Robert as a ringtone for years. Too bad our current environment promotes division, we have way too many things in common, that's what made this nation so successful. People are too quick to forget.

I'm thrilled that mowing season is at an end, and I love mowing my property. Video game of it? Rather play Leisure Suit Larry......

We got on the topic of Fender Telecasters at work, and I brought up a couple examples of favorite licks. Straight to youtube on the phones, and I was disappointed by the sound of The Beatles Abbey Road, everything is from the 2009 remix. That's not how I remember it, wore out a cassette tape of the Apple version in high school. Dug through my CD's, and yep, found a copy from 1994 that mirrored the old Apple pressing. There was George Harrison playing that Rosewood Tele on You Never Give Me Your Money, She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, and Maxwell Silverhammer in all his Beatles glory. Some things just don't need updating.

TBB has too many rings to be tender for the kettle. On the right is the only Shag Bark Hickory on the place. Caught it out of the corner of my eye while bulldozing, and left it, and its' playmate Oak. Never thought I'd live to see them mature, but the Hickory put out fruit last year. Sorry about the pix, it's raining this morning. All the trees have turned overnight.

Planted a lot of cedars, our deer don't bother them at all. Too bad I don't like them that much, but they make nice borders. Beavers are down the hill on Spring Creek, they don't make their way up....thank goodness.

Only survivor after a deer onslaught. I bought a sleeve of Maples & Jack Pines from the Arbor society, planted them all over the property, and the deer promptly chomped them off. This sweetie was bitten too, but I caged it, and can't believe it manged to grow straight afterwards.

Save some data on a dead (IDK) hard drive.
TheLastColdBeer replied to Labob's topic in Computer Help
Yep, that one is going to be tough to sort out. RAID arrays are wonderful, depending on how data is stored across them. Losing one in a RAID 0 setup kinda leaves you screwed. If you do salvage data, windows is not going to be helpful in associating files where they can be useful again. I feel for ya, I use Handbrake for video conversion too, and it's not a rapid process. Most of my video collection is on a portable, connected to a Blu-ray player in my bedroom. -

Typed that incorrectly, it was Parted Magic that I used. Powerful tool, but like LInux, not forgiving, either command line or GUI. It will give you an opportunity to look things over, but it won't ask you if you're sure. It just executes, right or wrong. I've lost two hard drives in my career, which proved to me backup is your friend. Stuff I've lost, life goes on, and it couldn't have been that important if I didn't copy it somewhere else. -

Had some success using Partition Magic under Linux. Set the old HD under slave & see if the OS can see into it. Windows just doesn't like looking at crashed drives. One Maxtor died, and putting it into the system under windows just causes blue screens, even as a slave. Booting Linux with a live drive is easy, and it won't change anything on your system. All else fails, dead drives make nice paperweights. -
I like the TP on the bucket handle, that dude thinks ahead!

273 powered? Slant six? Gear car or torqueflite? Sweet find, A body folk are always fun to talk to at meets, they're passionate about their Darts, Valiants, & Dusters. Couple of Mr. Norm's Hemi Darts always draw crowds around here. I saw Hemi Under Glass perform @ Cordova years ago, alongside the Little Red Wagon.

Series parallel batteries
TheLastColdBeer replied to TheLastColdBeer's topic in Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Boating
Quite correct, and I wouldn't consider using them in a full load, extended use condition. Car batteries are amp intensive for a brief period, they don't care for long draws, even with minimal amp demands. This was a once only consideration, but got shelved when I was reminded of the 12v trolling motor hanging on the wall. I have no problem using a car battery on a 12v troller, because we've never made more than a couple of hours use of them. If they peter out...so what. I also use heaver gauge wire on a 12v system vs. a 24v, because you're drawing heavier amperage across a lower voltage. 24v gets the job done at lower amps, so less heat is created. I'm agreeing with everyone, using matching batteries for one system, a single battery for the other, because it's a safer option. -

One trip, one ping only Vassili. End of season quickie to a wake-less local lake. Not huge, but lots of coves. Bluegill are tiny, going to spend a lot of time laughing about the children we're catching. Shore Gestapo gets all bent out of shape about wakes & speed. They'll barrel down on you with their 100hp Merc @ 30knots, swamping everything nearby if you break their association rules. Hence, the 16' Alumacraft & trollers. Using what's handy & available for ONE day of leisurely fishing. Gets dark here around 18:30, so it won't be a forever day. I did have to laugh about melting cables & exploding batteries, holy shite folks, did I not mention this isn't a power trip? Not my first day playing with electrons, and I'm quite used to operating sub-par setups. Nothing is getting stressed, particularly me. -
Looks like a typical day at the wal-marts.

Series parallel batteries
TheLastColdBeer replied to TheLastColdBeer's topic in Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Boating
This is what I WAS going to do, and yes it works fine. Since I'm putting the 12v troller on the transom, and 2 batteries connected in series in the bow for the 24v troller, this is NOT what I'm going to be using on the lake. Two separate systems, two different motors. One dude runs the stern, and one dude runs the footy while in the coves. Fisherman in the center gets to relax, cast in peace, and maybe run the cooler. -

A better Idea was posed to me, forgot I had a 36lb thrust 12v transom mount Minn Kota hanging on the back wall. Putting the 24v foot controlled in the bow, wired with two compatible deep cycles. 36 goes on the stern of the Alumacraft hooked to the Motorcraft car battery, and the other deep cycle kept as a reserve. We should run out of daylight long before we run out of motive power. My first idea was to just throw a couple oars onboard, but that got me nothing but dirty looks. -
You might need to drink more

Series parallel batteries
TheLastColdBeer replied to TheLastColdBeer's topic in Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Boating
I didn't want to fill a page with numbers, You are correct. I will end up with 2 banks of 24v batteries, wired in parallel. My amperage will average out to 180amp, for an average runtime of 9hrs. Except we won't be pulling any amperage for any length of time. And yes, a 50amp breaker goes between batteries & motor. -
Gonna go out for a day fishing with just a 24v Minn Kota troller. My suggestion was to throw 3 deep cycle 12v batteries along with a fully charged car battery, connect them in series parallel, with a combined amp rating around 360amp/hr Figure the motor is going to draw 20amp, so we should be fine for one day of fishing. Argument against was, dissimilar batteries, going to hurt them. My feeling is they're sitting around doing nothing anyway, not going to stress anything close to capacity, what difference does it make? Never tested a system yet (including forklifts) that had every battery perfect, so as long as they're electrically equal, what can limited use harm?

Just got home, wonderful trip, 43 quart bags of fillets divvied out. Catfish were biting like mad. Didn't even know there was a tornado touchdown, we were too busy cleaning fish. -
Not quite fair, Loader. I was throwing together a concoction for lunch while doing chores. BDS was engaged in a labor of love cooking for the family. If I had a bottle of BBQ sauce on the shelf I would've used it, but as usual, I'm short an ingredient when the mood strikes.

Playing with very large displacements, no substitute for cubic inches. EMD? CAT? I miss hearing Detroit 567's when the Burlington Route, Milwaukee Road, and Chicago Northwestern would mix & match cars outside our little town (Ladd, Illinois) when I was a kid. Cars would bang & clang all night, then they'd pull out after breakfast. All the routes are gone now, Railnet operates a short line that used to be BN's connection @ Zearing, leading to the Iowa Interstate (Rock Island Road) in Peru. They use a couple of GPs to move sand cars around, nothing like the heyday.
