sounds funny to me too, its complete madness here, we get a bit of snow and all hell breaks loose, more a stupid H&S issue, they closed the Channel tunnel because of the risk of skidding on the ramps leading down to the trains on the freight terminal and 4 HGV's had jacknifed down the hill into Dover port closing that), we had to wait 4hrs for a snowplough to come, it cleared the snow and loaded onto the train in front of me, we got to calais and it got off to clear the snow on the exit ramps, got to my delivery point in belgium and returned to find the tunnel completely shut, went to calais port to get ferry, they were stacked all the way out to the motorway, got off and went to Dunkerque , got on the ferry there, gets to dover to find the whole place gridlocked, eventually got out onto motorway to hear on radio that operation stack was now in place (all freight traffic held on m/way and coastbound side closed) all because of 10cm of blooooody snow.
Now in my job it is imperative that whatever i am carrying gets to destination on time, i have snow + ice tyres on my van as standard and carry all winter essential(snow chains , shovels, food, warm clothing blah blah blah) but when the authorities close docks and major transport routes for fear of being sued then i think its time to emmigrate to outer freaking mongolia agghhhhhhhh.
Rant over
