I have heard of strips of cloth hung in trees to look like snakes for keeping Bluejays away. An old Indian trick I believe. No idea if it works or not since birds are more than welcome to my cherries and blueberries. What amazes me how birds seem to know, almost to the minute, when to harvest. At the specific time Blackbirds will descend en masse on my cherry tree and pick it clean. Probably how Alfred Hitchcock got his idea for The Birds.

All that is needed is one real Norwegian idiot to bring out a witch hunt for guns and gamers. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/19/tech/gaming-gadgets/games-violence-norway-react/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

Seems Pocono deer do not like Daffodils. At least they never eat mine. Nice bulb type planting for spring.
-
Agreed, but then they lived outside. When they moved inside they crossed the line.
-
Move, the deer were there first.

May he be fondly remembered by the Pre-MTV generation. And appreciated by all for his contributions to Rock and Roll. Dick served as the bridge to make Rock and Roll acceptable to our parents. Before Dick Clark Rock and Roll was almost a dirty word. His appeal to both teens and older folk helped bring Rock and Roll into respectability. God only knows how many stars careers were started with the help of Dick Clark and American Bandstand. And being from Philly myself I am probably biased. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/18/showbiz/dick-clark-obit/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

Northern lights should be on my list. My Mother often told me of them, she was born above the Arctic Circle in Sweden and saw them often. It was one of natures events she often missed after migrating to the U.S. Getting my pen out to write.

Perhaps, IMHO, the best anti-war song. Can't but help think of our soldiers in Afghanistan and Pakistan and if they really understand why they are there. I honor our soldiers who respond when duty calls.

A truly American problem and not just PIRA. If our ethnic civilian groups would stop funding foreign poitical activists of any religious faction or political persuasion we would all be better off. TIme is long past for us to mind our own business and keep our money at home. No wonder I prefer charity to domestic animal welfare agencies.

LOL, so true! We are loud, egotistical and illiterate, one of the few countries whose citizens do not have the capacity to speak two languages. Let's not even discuss how we are accused of butchering the English language................. or is it the UK language?
-
Unfortunately I suppose it will always be England to those of us in the States. Old habits die hard.

My wife was half Irish Catholic and we both classified the IRA as nothing better than terrorists. They may hate the English and I do not take issue with that but when they randomly target civilians I find I take exception. I have also visited her Irish family more than a few times, both here and there, and was quite surprised to find that many in the Republic of Ireland do not want unification with the North. It seems they fear the economy of the North would only hurt the Republic of Ireland.

I believe Hitler was not considered because he did not lead troops in battle, as Rommel did, but was primarily a political entity. And I certainly agree the United States at the time was of no threat to England at all. This was a war of economics and world domination for England, not a war because of any perceived threat from the United States. England wanted to keep the material value of the States and nothing more. I also suppose the common man in England had little say on the subject. ( IE: Rich Mans War........ on both sides.) The poll confuses me as to the criteria used. I suppose it is just an evaluation of a Generals performance taking into consideration of the odds against them and resources available, not necessarily the threat they posed to England. Socialist, isn't that somewhat of a Liberal? Providing it is pure Socialism and does not evolve into a Dictatorship. My heritage is Swedish which is a Socialist country but I'll be damned if I possess any of the Sweidsh mentality. I even hit my kids when they deserved it............. only a proper spanking mind you. BTW, I consider myself Conservative which usually aligns me with the Republican party but I have never in my life voted a straight political ticket. I pick and chose for where my vote will go. Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Libertarian of of late the Tea Party do not determine my vote. The individual candidate is the determining factor.

LOL, fortunately we in America care little or know anything about any internal British political issues. We only see the world issues and are rather insensitive if the internal issues do not impact on us. As for President Ronald Reagan, still beloved by the consevative element in the States to this day. Hmmmm......... SOB, might I guess you are a Liberal? Obviously I am not. Politial mindsets often skew perception. My edit: While I say I am a Consevative make no mistake I oppose our countries involvement in countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. I dislike our soldiers acting as NATO's police force. If I could bring them home today I would and let those idiots kill each other until the big dog wins. It is a bitter pill to see American, AND BRITISH, lives being lost in a war that serves us no useful purpose. Get our troops out and win with technology and economic sanctions instead of our soldiers lives. Yes, I am a bitter old man.

Seeing the space shuttle over Washington in route to the Smithsonian served to remind me of one item on my Bucket List. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17745800 Visit the Smithsonian! Anyone else have Bucket List items?

I think many Americans admired Maggie, a woman with balls. Hell, she could not have been too bad considering how long she served. This reminds me, I have to watch Iron Lady on my "telly". Any XI reviews out there?

LOL, many Americans may not have thought of how good a general Washington was either. I know I didn't. He was however politically wise and set precedents as President that live to this day. I also hate to admit that without the help of France the outcome probably would have been dramatically different. Without their help we just might be still speaking "proper English" Thank God the British and French had no love for each other. Also helped that at the time England had irons in the fire all over the world and was going broke fighting wars.

Very difficult to get a conviction on second degree in this case. My money says he walks although I might not want to be the one walking in his shoes.

I too questioned the 83 because Bill graduated from the same high school as me, Germantown High School in Philly, and I did not think he was that far ahead of me. EIther way I like the thoughts expressed, Cosby or not. They are however very much in line with his character.

"I'm 83 and I'm Tired" I'm 83. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired. I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to. I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand , UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance.. I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off? I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor. I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems. I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government. Yes, I'm tired. But I'm also glad to be 83.. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in.
