  1. With my fear of heights it was quite an accomplishment to just watch. Had I been challenged to do it no problem, I would have died of fright thinking about it.
  2. Well the latest and not so greatest. I am on the road with my laptop with which I have gamed frequently. I transferred my player profiles to the laptop so my -Shamu character is current. Now my laptop is turning completely off in game. Previously I did a reinstall of COD WAW on my home PC but had saved my profiles. It still shuts down all but the fans. My laptop shuts of completely and disengages me from the hotel network connection. I went to Local Apps and deleted the players from the folder but somehow they still come up when I open the game and the laptop still powers off. Gonna try COD4 at sometime and see if I have issues there. I am so damn confused. I am running a complete scan with Malwarebytes to see if anything is found. Nothing found by Mawarebytes.
  3. GorillaXI You trying to tell me she's not on your list? Just had to "Quote" the post so I could look at it some more.
  4. Wonder how many duplicates songs are posted?
  5. Gump 55c & 37c are good temps, fingers crossed. One of these days I may learn to understand Celsius and the metric system. Also it appears temperature was never the problem. Never got high temps at any time. Of course I could never figure out the Dewey Decimal System either and that was taught to me.
  6. Gump What is the video card temp when it crashes? Video about 130F, GPU about 100F, they are max temps attained using HWMonitor. In talking with the PC builders and others the temps are not high enough to cause a shutdown like I am having. I have also tried with a 12" electric fan blowing into the open side of the case, no help at all. Today I did a system restore and got rid of a few Windows updates. My video card is updated and current with the exception of an available Beta update that I had previously had downloaded while the tech guy ran my PC trying to find the problem. What is interesting is that the beta version from NVIDIA now cannot be installed because of a now deleted Windows update. Perhaps that is telling me that my problem may have been a conflict with the now deleted Windows update and NVIDIA drivers. Played a game this morning without crashing the PC. Book is ordered, education never hurts....... too bad I did not learn that concept in grade school.
  7. Latest activity. I called Red Barn Computer, the people who built my PC for assistance. http://rbc.redbarncomputers.com/?page_id=30 I can have them take over my PC remotely. What I learned is that while my GTX 295 shows all updates installed when checking NVIDIA for updates there are some Beta updates that do not show when checking if your system is current. So while my system shows "Current" there are still some updates that are more recent than mine. Don't ask me how to find the again. The tech lost me after a few clicks. So I now have the latest Beta update and will try to see how things go. There were 3 beta updates since my last one that supposedly had me current. No hardware or overheat issues were apparent. So now to try and see what happens with the "secret" update. Kind of fun watching a tech move around on your PC looking for possible issues. I was lost after a few clicks he made Crashed again but seemed less frequent, got through 3 maps before crashing. Hoping a reboot makes a difference.
  8. With an outside assist from a fan my video card was running about 130F max and the CPU 100F max. THese results are from HWMonitor which is easy to interpret. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Later I will run without the fan assist. Don't know how to get MSI to display while in game.
  9. baldie .....Msi afterburner will give you a better idea of temps...What I did was try to work out how long into game did the comp crash then start playing and just before the comp crashes get out of game and check your temps .... I have downloaded MSI but have to figure out how to use it. I also have HWMonitor downloaded. Just a moment ago I set a fan up on my desk blowing into the PC. So I have a few things to follow up on.
  10. Cavey You have nothing to loose. Very true and I do know how to save profiles and maps. In fact I always move my profile to whichever PC I will be using. Everything is updated, in fact did the video card twice just to be sure.
  11. Cavey Ummmm, did anyone read his original post, it is only crashing ingame cod5... Have you reinstalled the game??? I have not reinstalled but could. Would the game be capable of totally crashing the PC, except for the fans which remain running? I still lean to overloading hardware or something like that. Another odd thing, I crashed multiple times on a Rats type map. Same thing happened before. The following maps I had no hard crashes. Could a specific map or maps cause a system to overheat?
  12. I have HWMonitor installed, what temps or data should I be looking for?
  13. hxtr damn Shamu... your almost a post whore. almost time to put you to work. I was honoring an Admin request from Beers, he asked me to bump it up...........blame him.
  14. Here is a bump Beers.
  15. I don't see any knobs and the prongs I do see seem hold the fan in place. They protrude through the MB and look like plastic points that are pushed into 4 holes in the MB and self lock in place. Am I right in that the fan needs to come off so I can get to the CPU? Have not seen any knobs or arrows.......perhaps under the fan I suspect. Downloaded EVGA Precision and was clueless with what to do with it. A Window opens but no files or programs to open. No clue what I was to do with it so I have already deleted it. I do have MSI downloaded and again no clue what to do with it but it looks more professional than EVGA. I am the classic computer illiterate. I also find absolutely no fun in working on a PC. My attitude certainly does not help in this matter. I will say again there was VERY little dust to be seen inside my PC. Digesting all that's been said I suspect the CPU and the heat sink compound. I will say vacuuming and air dusting have improved things but not fixed them. I may have to rely on my son who works for Siemens doing network and laptop type service. I just do not feel like asking because he will just go his way regardless of what I might like to just have him do. It can be exasperating, but he is good at what he does. Survived several layoffs when more senior employees were released.
  16. Well I finally gathered the nerve and removed the sides to my PC. Inside there was very little dust even though I have never opened the case since 2/2010. Still I took a vacuum to what dust I could see which was mostly on the top of the 750 W power supply. I also used up a can of air dusting anything that might hold dust with particular effort on the CPU. The sides are still off, including one side that had a fan mounted on it. I still have 3 fans I can see , one on the CPU, one top of case and one back of case. Things are much improved but I still get an occasional hard crash. Next thing will be to get to the CPU and check the heat sink material. Looks like prongs click into hole on th MB to hold the fan into place over the CPU. I think I just have to pinch the prongs on the back side of the MB to allow me to pull off the fan. When I see the CPU I will try to figure that out. I see lots of web posts about the GTX 295 overheating but I do not think I will be taking a video card apart to clean it. I am so useless with computers. I even put off doing it because it is unknown territory. If it's the video card I might just get a new one.
  17. DREAD69 It is over but if the guy is one of our oysterman here at my job. He has been told not to come up here, he can catch a boatload for us but he is not to leave the boat... If he comes up here to my job after he jumped me I have the OK to kick the shit out of his ass. At this point it's probably not worth it for personal satisfaction or anything else. If he's smart he would let you hit him then fall on the ground and wait for an ambulance. First chance he got he would be calling a lawyer and would win in the long run without throwing a punch.
  18. I'm done voting, all it does is help the site get hits. Serves no beneficial purpose for XI unless some look at it an ego thing. Personally I do not think that is necessary. You already know you are good. There goes 30 of my votes and even more depending on my business traveling from hotel to hotel.
  19. That Top 100 is probably bogus anyway. I vote the link gets removed so I do not waste anymore time clicking it.
  20. Gives me the "willies" just thinking about an armpit tattoo.
  21. Knowledge_022 I'll be celebrating the new year with some good friends and family. If you're in the neighborhood of Worcester, Ma please feel free to stop in! Plenty of beers and chinese food to go around! I do not apparently play the games you play but I do get to Worcester on occasion. Komtek is a customer of mine.
