Hi all....recently came across a work of art that by my investigation so far has told me that this could be a rare gem that no one knows

even exists.Does anyone have any experience on how I should proceed with this?.I haven't been able to see what any of his other works have sold for as they all want money for access.I have seen that the art world is rather unscrupulous so far...most "experts" want a percentage of the appraisal value.Any help would be appreciated.

Hey send me a pm and I will try to help. I have been doing a lot of digging on the internet for things that I own and have found some good sites. I am making some money at it, but the whole thing is to research before you sell. Some things I can't sell worth shit, even if I know what they are worth. So it is kind of hit miss on some stuff.

I am at the computer several hours a day doing this stuff. So maybe I could help.

That is a good idea Blackbart. I have an old book that is a Biography of Lincoln and the guy was writing it when he got shot, so the last chapter is about his assasination. I am stuck on finding more about it on line. It gives you some info but not much. I should contact a university or museum. I have had values of $10 to $2,000 dollars, hard to tell who is right and who is wrong. I have newspapers back to 1681, totally authentic and nobody will pay over $50, that's bs, I paid that much 30 years ago. Some real cool shit. Especially the George Washington Newspapers, a lot of history in them, 1792 & 1794. They made real paper back then.

Thanks for the tip.

Hey mate I am not sure about the states but in the uk some insurance compamys give free valuations on items just incase of false claims. the way to do it is tell them you are thinking of insuring the work of art and they send round an art expert to give you an authentication and valuation free of charge. It might be worth a try
