An old traditional poem from a Canadian doctor who had just lost a friend: The GreatWar 1914-1918 In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, May 1915 In Flanders fields the poppies blowBetween the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved and were loved, and now we lieIn Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing hands we throwThe torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders fields. http://www.greatwar.co.uk/poems/john-mccrae-in-flanders-fields-inspiration.htm Take time to make a charitable donation to one of the many vets selling Poppies out side of our local stores.

I give my deepest gratitude to the men & women who gave the ultimate Sacrifice... "Lest Not We Forget"... Ode To Remembrance is ode taken from Laurence Binyons Poem "For The Fallen" written in 1914. They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Awards

Written by Michelle Keim As we stand here lookingAt the flags upon these gravesKnow these flags representA few of the true American braveThey fought for their CountryAs man has through all of timeExcept that these soldiers lying hereFought for your country and mineAs we all are gathered hereTo pay them our respectLet's pass this word to others It's what they would expectI'm sure that they would do itIf it were me or youTo show we did not die in veinBut for the red, white and blue.Let's pass on to our childrenAnd to those who never knewWhat these soldiers died forIt's the least we can doLet's not forget their familiesGreat pain they had to bearLosing a son, father or husbandThey need to know we still careNo matter which war was foughtOn the day that they diedI stand here looking at these flagsFilled with American pride. So as the bugler plays out TapsWith its sweet and eerie soundPray for these soldiers lying hereIn this sacred, hallowed ground.Take home with you a sense of prideYou were here Memorial Day.Celebrating the way Americans should On this solemnest of days. I know it is an American poem, but it goes for all those who have served their county. No matter where you are.
