It has it's pro's and con's but I'm glad I was home schooled. My parents didn't use a website or anything. They taped into the local homeschool-grapevine. I think http://www.hslda.org/orgs/ was a way they found connections.

The "public" homeschool wasn't available until a couple of years ago in our area. If it had been, we would have done that for our youngest child. Both of our kids were private schooled and we didn't regret it. Public school just wasn't an option for us. There's pros and cons to home school and it really depends on the child. ATM all of them are, but we have some great charter school options in our area. The beauty of homeschooling is the ability to tailor their education to their needs. Our 13 year old has dyslexia and has always been behind in public school. She "gets it" in her own time, no matter how many ways a concept is explained to her (which can be frustrating for Dad). We use curriculum that supports our religious views. We got tired of continuously correcting false teaching in the public school system. On top of that, we stress character over education. loaderXI, Hemps and eidolonFIRE
 Awards

Seems it would require a lot of self discipline by the parents. Edited January 11, 2013 by Shamu
