Hey there... I am looking at buying a piece of rural property, where there is no cable or DSL available. It looks like the HughesNet satellite internet would be the only option. They claim to have download speeds up to 8mbs and upload up to 2mbs...but it seems to me there would be some kind of ping/latency issues. I was just wondering if anybody here has one of those connections?

Thanks

Your pings will likely bounce and latency may affect your game play alot, when its real cloudy or raining should be very interesting..lol    But, still may be better then dial up.

transmission latency is not gaming friendly so you can play with .5-1.7 delay and worst when weather is not clear

I had Hughesnet about 5 years ago and it was just a little better than dial-up. Gaming online was impossible. If you can afford it, check with your local phone company to see how much a partial T-1 line would be per month if they already have the right cable installed in your area.

Unfortunately it's the price we pay for country life, but well worth it to live there in my opinion.

The latency of satellite connections is way to high for the most online Games. Don't do it.
