This is why it's good for cops to have camera's on them. Stuff like this could be sorted out WAY easier.

This happened yesterday about 15 minutes from my house. The kid must have been practically adult size. I can't imagine those deputies didn't think it might have been an air-soft gun or some kind of toy. But just 3 hours east of here that 13 year old kid went to school in Reno, killed a teacher and wounded a couple students a couple days ago, so I guess they were on edge. Very sad situation regardless of how it went down.

Sad indeed! One of my sons played with these and I pointed out that some folks might think it was real and call cops. But the end of airsoft rifles and pistols are suppose to be orange! I don't see that in this photo. Hmmm. I can see how this could happen if cops looked for and didn't see orange clue. Sad, nonetheless.

The cops had benefit of cover from their patrol car (I would think.) Even if the boy didn't drop the gun immediately why would they open up on him? We don't know the whole story of course but I don't like the sound of this one.

My thoughts are the police told this young man what to do and he didnt listen. Probably telling him to drop his gun/weapon. Who knows...but there is always another side of the story. i wouldn't point fingers either way.. But sad as hell though...

More on this has come out: The deputies called for backup and repeatedly ordered Lopez to drop the gun. "The subject turned toward the deputies, and as he was doing that the barrel of the weapon was rising toward the deputies," said a spokesman. The deputies then fired. Deputies also found a plastic handgun in the boy's waistband.

Sounds like they were acting as per their training. One wonders what a 13-year-old was doing carrying a replica handgun and AK-47.

Yea, if that is indeed the case then the cops did the right thing.

It's still just a shame... you could really consider it a suicide since he had to have known what was going to happen.

There are many views that can be taken and any I may have mean nothing with out being there....I will say this living in a city that has lost at least 4 police officers in the line of duty with in the last year or so that sometimes now it seams they do not retreat from any kind of threat but rather shoot there way through it 1st....My thoughts would be to find some type of cover to advantage myself over the perp and shooting to kill would be a last resort ....People have become desperate and suicide by cop is on the rise....I still have a great deal of respect for police because the streets are killing fields
