I am retiring the netbook I use when on the boat, early next year, due to Microsoft's cessation of support

for XP.  Rather than pay them any more money, I have decided to switch to a non-Windows tablet but

one of my specific needs is to be able to get images from a camera onto the tablet (for Facebook etc.).

No tablets I have yet encountered have a SDHC slot but I gather that USB OTG together with a suitable

file manager app should do the job if I link the tablet to the camera's USB port with a cable.

Any comments and views based on experience would be welcomed.

Apple's just too darned expensive so I expect to go for an Android model and Nexus 7 is looking good so far.

I have the Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 and LOVE IT.

It sounds like your needs are different than mine though so it prolly wouldn't be the best fit.

It runs samsung's flavor of android though so I can answer any questions you might have about android... or general tablet usage.

Hey, that sounds pretty cool. I think I've heard of those before.

I would research the effect it has on battery life though....  Also, most new cameras have wifi built in so considering the cost of an Eye Fi, you might also look at just getting an new camera.

Well, if it's a tablet you want, this won't fit, but if your looking for a phablet, then the galaxy note 2 or even 3 is the shit. I have a galaxy note 2 and LOVE it. I have an iPad, but I can't seem to do anything with pictures, even when they are on the bloody thing. The note 2 is a fantastic piece of equipment, for a phone, fills all my needs, and the S pen is a bonus add on. And everything is connected with a USB. Works great, and still fits in your pocket!

Thanks for the responses but it's actually comments about USB OTG and how it has worked for you that interests me.

I'm not angling for tablet recommendations.

Thanks bud. Now I know.. I use my android phone to "tether" to my iPad, via wifi but haven't used USB to USB on any device. I imagine it would be fairly simple with a smart phone, there must be some app for that. I will try to find one for my noteII
