I'm desperate..

I reinstalled the PC of my brother-in-law and i am stuck at this crappy onboard sound card.
First I installed the chipset drivers (nForce) and then all other device drivers. The sound drivers were installed without any errors but

now there is a weird thing: No Sound. I took a look into the sound settings and it says:

Record: Realtek HD Audio input
Output: No audio device.

I've done everything: Uninstall, re-install, tried newer drivers. Nothing.

Does anyone have experiences with this    Realtek stuff?

btw,  no Win 7 or 8 available ;)

You might have to set your default output device to realtek in the sound settings. Or the USB headset if there is one.

That's the point: I can not select any output device. The Realtek sound manager detects speakers or a headset when I plug it in.

Sound input and MIDI work well. As I said. This is weird :on2long:

xp about says it all.  i absolutely loved it and did not want to change. win 7 was actually a surprise at how easily the transition was. it is almost to the point that xp is now soo outdated and will always have gremlins in it.  it will just become a reality you learn to live with. and deal with it or move on.

When I get asked for assistance when a computer wont boot up the first thing I say is to make sure the computer is plugged in and the power strip turned on. I know some might get annoyed with this kind of question but even after 20 years of using computers I did that once or twice after spending an hour trying to figure out a problem. I kid you not. :wallbash:

Was the same for me. I used Win XP Professional for years and didn't want to change to win 7. Then there was a game that wasn't compatible with Win XP. (Modern Warfare 3?) That was day X for me. And now? I love it!
I advised my brother-in-law that he should change to Win 7 because the support for Win XP ends in April '14. He said "Yes, yes..." ("Ja, ja!" in German)  And "Ja, ja!" has a second meaning here in Germany: "Kiss my ass"

He doesn't care about that his PC will become more and more a security risk for himself and others. Really sad.
The last time he called me and said that he has some issues with his machine and that Firefox and IE are slow like hell.
I found at least 8(!) toolbars in each browser. He (ans his son) don't care what tools they install and what they have aboard.
