Not familiar with Steam installs but a couple of general things to look at and consider. 1. Try running the game in "administrator" mode and/or in "compatibility" mode. 2. During a map change, don't press any keyboard keys, just wait for map to download and load. Not sure why this is but find at times, not all the time, this causes the game to crash with an unhandled exception message. It's an odd thing...

In multiplayer options, add XI to name. Set the graphics video mode setting to highest. This will give you nice clear text and not fuzzy.

Never liked Win 8. My daughter had it on her laptop at that time and found navigation shitty. Think the only version worse than 8 was windows 2000, that was buggy as hell. All preference of course but that's my 2 cents.

I always liked XP, was an excellent OS. I currently run Windows 11 Pro 21H2 without issue and gotta say that I do like it.

Not aware of another mouse setting other than the game setting for mouse sensitivity. Other than that, depending on what mouse you have any utility that came with it, are you able to change the DPI setting?

Hey CW4. I have COD2 on Windows 11 and have not had that type of problem. I find the game takes a bit to load but otherwise works. I've had it loaded for some time now and honestly don't recall if I loaded it before or after I upgraded to Windows 11. The 0 files in iwd files almost sounds like the game files didn't install correctly. I'd start by uninstalling the game if you haven't already and manually delete any COD2 game folders/files if any remained. Then try to re-install the game along with PB and direct X if prompted. You can also try changing the properties of the .exe file to change compatibility mode and see if that makes a difference. Good luck.
