  1. I did my Master's thesis on this 23-odd years ago when Canada began to integrate our services. Biggest impact: We found that we had capable female service members <gasps from the audience>
  2. Happy 66th Chile! Here's to hoping that your next complete orbit around the Sun is fantabulistic!
  3. I don't know what you were thinking when you posted this video in this forum? Did you even watch my video? We all know that you are against guns. I was showing what a responsible gun owner does in a situation of home defense where a gun is involved. We all know your an "Idiot" but this was just an asinine post you made on my topic of "Responsible gun owners" I'm against egregious gun ownership. No need to be a butt-sphincter and name-call. I'm all for responsible ownership with limits. High magazine assault weaponry is not what should be in civilians hands. I've seen 3 news articles in the past 3 weeks where responsible gun owners foiled crime. Good on them for doing so and not inflicting collateral damage in the process. My point is, that for every heart-warming story of the bad guy getting what's deserved, there are far too many stories of bystanders getting shot from yahoos shooting indiscriminately either in "defending" themselves or from assholes, such as in what I posted, thinking that they're within their rights to do whatever the fuck they want on their property without consideration of the deadly consequences.. What scares me are the # of guns being smuggled across the 49th Parallel. With 300 million in circulation, there's a surplus looking for an underground market. WOW, this is funny. No where in my post did I call you names. You are a member of "The Xtreme Idiot" clan. That is where the "Idiot" came from. So for you to call me in your own words "a butt-sphincter" is out of line. Context is everything. Sorry if I mis-read your intent.
  4. troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.Your responses were completely off topic from what Gorilla posted. You posted your own link to a news article which had nothing to do with his original post and then you made an inflamatory statement about AK-47 owners that was false, which was likely to cause an emotional response in readers. Mission success. Troll. Sorry you see it that way sheepdog. I was presenting a counterpoint. I kind of like you buddy, at least in-game, but some hot-button topics should just be avoided in friendly forums: Guns, religion, and politics are 3 of them. If it warms the cockles of your heart, I'll keep my comments on this topic in the Politics forum. Sorry for rocking your boat.

  7. I tried golf over a dozen years ago and I didn't get it, and didn't really enjoy it. It held no appeal to me, and wasn't terribly fun, though I enjoyed randomly smashing a few buckets at the driving range now and then. I read a few books and worked on the basics, but it didn't take hold. Flash-forward to my mid-40's: In the Spring of 2012 my employer held a company tournament at a nice resort. I had tremendous fun and hit a few decent shots with my dad's never-used gifted hand-me-down clubs. Later that year, I rented very decent clubs and played a round at the best new golf course in North America (Cabot Links. Google it) and had a shockingly stunning round and just enjoyed the heck out of it - the scenery, the company, the shots, the...everything. I played further rounds that Summer and based on the kit used at Cabot, built up a nice set of clubs sized for my physique and novice status. Now I am hooked on the sport, reading avidly on it, perfecting my grip, stance, swing, etc, and watching the Golf Channel and keenly observing the technique of the pros, looking for hints and tips. Lessons for the Spring are being lined up and I've forged a connection with a group of like-minded colleagues. Plans are being set for weekly rounds at the nearby municipal courses and monthly excursions to courses in the surrounding area. Are there other avid newbies/experienced golfers in >XI<? Have >XI< members gathered to play a round? What courses have you played and would recommend? What's your favourite gear? Best shot? Best experience? Worst Experience? Funniest experience?
  8. And these very-plasticy feeling bills are impossible to fold, stick together when you take them out of your wallet, and they have exceptional aerodynamic qualities when a strong gust of wind catches them. There's also rumours that they may not survive a tumble in a hot clothes dryer. Add a foreign maple leaf to the mix and we clearly have grounds to bring down the government and call a fresh election! Dog save the Freddy Mercury!
  9. Not sure what you mean in the first part of your reply, and I was not trolling. Having a differing opinion is not trolling. Certainly the presentation was slanted given the source, but nonetheless, easy access to whatever firepower you want plus easy access to beer plus dumbfuck stupidity (even without alcohol) equals disaster. The valid point in the article is that AK-47 and similar weaponry have bullets that will penetrate residential walls and need to be used responsibly and in a controlled manner. The ethical issues around such firepower being available to civilian hands boggles the mind. Fun quote from NRA President, Karl Frederick from 1934: "I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses". @#$% rights-thieving liberal!
  10. I don't think that two guys who were drinking, had drugs on them, and decided to shoot weapons in their backyard adds up to "responsible." Therefore, I don't see what your link has to do with Gorilla's. One more note - I don't think that additional gun control laws will in any way stop the felonious activities of people like the two idiots in the article you referenced, either. Clearly they are already of a mind to flirt with - and defy - the law. Sorry. I forgot that licensed AK-47 owners didn't drink beer or smoke pot.
  11. "Responsible" gun owners target shooting in the back yard pepper neighbouring homes and police with stray bullets: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/01/17/responsible-gun-owners-stray-bullets-pepper-neighborhood-video/
  12. Damned tubers! My mom forced me to eat potatoes. And don't get me started on water-chestnuts or Jerusalem artichokes. Grrrr....
  13. He sued a British newspaper for defamation when they accused him of doping. He won, and had to pay. He needs to re-pay them with interest, legal fees, damages, and suffer any penalty relating to his perjury. Any instance where he lied under oath should be dealt with under the law. If there are any US laws requiring penalties for doping in sports, try him in an open court. His celebrity should have no factor in this. Try him for law violations like any one else would be tried.
  14. Welcome to the >XI< family of Idiots, Snoop! See ya on the freezetag server!
  15. AWESOME system there Deerhunter! Congrats!!!
  16. I did it as well. Best of luck to you!
  17. When you adopt a pet, it's for life. They rely on you for everything, they give you unconditional love, and give you all that they have with no expectation of reciprocation. You are the center of their universe. The shock of taking away all that they have known is devastating to these creatures. I feel for your former companion, but at least you recognize what you have done. If there is a next time, try and understand why your companion is doing what it's doing, and work to mitigate it. Owning a pet is a responsibility. Work with them and give back what they give to you.
  18. Sincerely sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my shadow of 13 years (she was 17 when she passed. She was a pound rescue) 2 years ago and her absence is still felt. Keep the good memories close to the surface. Your friend will always be close by.
  19. Oh.....my.....!
  20. Welcome to the asylum!
  21. My PS3 is a dandy DVD/BluRay player, media streamer, and uuuuuhhhhh, oh yeah! I play the racing game "Burnout: Paradise City" once every 9-10 months. HATE the controller, auto-aim in FPS's...
  22. More detail with photos here: " $17,000 Linux-powered rifle brings “auto-aim” to the real world" http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/01/17000-linux-powered-rifle-brings-auto-aim-to-the-real-world/
  23. Welcome to the >XI< asylum, Crazygirl!
  24. Just received my starter kit today. I have to say that I'm impressed. I put one bulb in the desk lamp in my office, one in the upstairs family room (open-concept kitchen/dining/living room), and one in the basement entertainment room. The ability to switch from bright reading light for small print to unobtrusive low-light for movie watching is impressive. In my office, I can see many opportunities for different lighting for differing situations: low red to preserve my dark-adapted vision for astronomy nights when I come in to check my charts or reference texts, low blue or red for gaming, brighter yellowish tone for reading, whiter for reviewing printouts of technical diagrams. For the multi-purpose upstairs room, I can see the value of an infinitely flexible series of bulbs. The range of colours it can display is amazing, particularly when you select a bulb and run your finger over a colour-selector chart on your i-device or Android phone or tablet. On the downside, greens and browns are difficult for it to reproduce (green being decidedly yellowish and sickly looking), but shades in the red/blue/purple/yellow/orange/white shades are stunning. Colour reproduction of many sunset and blue shades with subtle hues was excellent. Just the ability to turn any light fixture into a dimmer makes these worthwhile. They are equivalent to a 50w bulb, so if you need something brighter than that, these may not be for you. I will be adding more of these bulbs into several rooms in my home over the next 12 months as I really like the flexibility. These are not inexpensive right now, but as competition enters the market and production costs drop, the price will go down. They have an estimated 15-year life (taken with a grain of salt), but if the controller dies, there is no easy way to transfer control of the bulbs to another controller, so early adopters beware (but it can be done). Philips has promised to release the SDK for this product soon, so expect more 3rd party software options when they do. How these work has already been decoded by the modding community and the first third-party software and HTML and other coding tutorials are available. 8.9/10 Edit: One writer for Forbes Magazine calls it the best product of 2012: http://www.forbes.com/sites/sethporges/2012/12/28/the-best-product-of-2012-the-philips-hue-led-lighting-system/
  25. Yeah, I feel like the guy on the receiving end every time I try BF3
