  1. First, go into the BIOS and set it to it's default settings and see if that lets you get going. What BIOS make/version do you have?
  2. Pear Jam doing "Crown of Thorns" in Toronto, 2011
  3. Mother Love Bone - Andy Wood's tragic passing was a huge loss. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ahment went on to form Pearl Jam.
  4. Hey Skuz! Welcome to >XI<! Now, you do know the Code of Conduct, right? No shooting, stabbing, or grenading fellow >XI< members in the games.
  5. For the fallen, and the remaining few who came back.
  6. Easy question to answer: Research astronomer. Science, especially astronomy, physics, and astrophysics have become my passions. I've been fortunate enough to be able to contribute data with my own equipment on variable stars, and near-earth objects, and participate in hunts for super novas in nearby galaxies (as well as going on organized ground hunts for meteorites after a large meteor exploded in the atmosphere above my region), but I'd love to make it a career. A friend of mine with a demanding job managed to get his Masters in Computational Astronomy in his spare time. Now he's going for his PhD in planetary science with no intention of going into academia. He does it because he's passionate about the subject. He's become a mentor and role model. I'm learning calculus and a bunch of other things along this journey.
  7. Baldie, your question is timely. I had send Jack or whatever his name is messages from my home e-mail while he was allegedly in hospital. He sent this to my home e-mail after I recieved the reply from Manthis: chris I will admit i lied not sure why i did maybe its a mental disorder i dont know.i never wanted anything from anyone at least not money or anything like that. yes we live in Midland we do have children and are preety deceant ppl. I hope the doctors can figure out whats wrong with me i cant. You wont have to worry about seeing me on xi anymore. Maybe im haveing some kinda nervous breakdown or something I don tknow. i am truly sorry so thats that ill try n get the help I need and you and the other XI members will never have to worry about me again sorry jack Sounds like the same person to me as well. I say we ban all three from the site and all servers and move on. Let us all learn a lesson from this. UnionJack no voice??? I thought that was a requirement. It could be that he moved and one person is or has been using their account. There are too many possibilities to consider. Ban them all. UnionJack, Manthis, and pussycat.... Too obvious that this is the truth. Ban them and related IP's, and move on.
  8. I win, I win!!! YESSS!!! You love me...! You REALLY love me!!! I want to *sniff* thank my wife for putting up with me all these years, my dogs for those walks never taken while I gamed, my fellow Idiots for...for...for being Idiots!
  9. Is this something we have to do on our end? Or do the game servers eventually get authenticated and added to the server list?
  10. Nothing posted on Infinity Ward yet or on their Twitter feed. Hope this is not just a test.
  11. The available server list is slowly populating...!
  12. Ok, Online authentication is up. Looks like it'll take some time for the authentication server to reestablish connections to the game servers. Soon....
  13. It's events like this that help you differentiate between leeches and friends. Good to know that you saw who they really are before you invested time and energy with them that could be best spent with real friends, the ones that have your back when you need them and have no sense of entitlement to leeching off of your hard work.
  14. Damn! You're right: http://www.streetauthority.com/investing-basics/bankruptcy-watch-struggling-tech-stock-cant-afford-any-more-losses-459898 I wasn't aware of that. Too bad, as their products are good.
  15. I'll second OCZ. I have a Vertex 3 60Gb and a Vertex 4 120Gb. Both are damned fast and their reputation is very good.
  16. 1979 Oldsmobile gutless "Cutlass Salon", a hand-me-down from my parents. Heater didn't work, no tape deck, and it was white so my class mates called it either "the egg" of "the snow bank" depending on the season. I did get on the weekends my dad's 1984-ish Delta 88: 301 HP and a roomy as heck back seat. Lots of great memories with that beast. Wish I still had it.
  17. Congrats on another successful orbit around the Sun! Hope to see you in COD-WAW when the servers come back up.
  18. Get a free program called "Classic Shell" http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/ for Windows 8. Boot into the desktop, have a Start menu, and you get a much improved, faster Windows 7 experience, and you don't have to deal with the tablet interface if you don't want to. I have it on my laptop and with Windows 8 under the hood, it's excellent. I plan on installing COD-WAW on it over the weekend, seeing as it has an nVidia graphics chip. If all goes well, I may migrate my Windows 7 gaming rig over to it in a few months. I've had it on the laptop since the end of August (MSDN member), and I really like it with Classic Shell. More details on Classic Shell here: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/45430/Classic-Shell
  19. Hi Rusty, I've tried to send you my file from my Gmail and Sympatico (hosted by Hotmail) accounts, and the message came back as undeliverable. :-(
  20. As seen on slashdot.org. COD WAW might be off-line for a while longer yet: "Problems in New York's data centers persisted through Wednesday morning, with hosting companies and other facilities racing against time to keep generators humming as water was pumped out of their facility basements. The fight now is to keep those generators fueled while pumps clear the basement areas, allowing the standard backup generators to begin operating. It's also unclear whether the critical elements of infrastructure (power and communications) will both be up and running in time to restore services. The following is a list of some of the data centers and services in the area, and how they're faring." I'm responsible for a few servers at Peer1, and their efforts are interesting: "Peer1’s operations at 75 Broad are operating on sheer manpower: a bucket brigade. According to a blog post from Fog Creek Software, one of the clients at the building, about 30 customers are lifting buckets (or cans) of diesel fuel up 18 flights of stairs." " ============= Note: The above paragraph was part of the article. I live in Canada
  21. Are you kidding me?!? Seriously, bro? I'm...speechless. Referencing my area which had all alarm bells going but the biggest hit was temporary power loss and internet loss. Not anywhere near what local officials had anticipated. A local area along the river that floods frequently barely got their feet wet. I also understand, correct me if I am wrong, that the storm was in "bands" and perhaps we missed the worst. There was some tree damage from wind but pretty much nothing from flooding. I think a lot of the tree damage was because of Mondays all day rain. When the winds hit the ground was already soft and wet, not a good thing at all. I also suspect your impression of the storm is tempered by the unusual atmospheric circumstances coming together to make it unique and a weatherman's dream story. But then again better safe than sorry. In regards to meteorology, this storm is one for our generation. I was following in real-time a weather forum populated by pro and amateur mets and there was deep frustration that some TV weather people were downplaying it as were some politicians (e.g. Mayor Bloomberg). Meanwhile myself and many others were comparing models (http://www.instantweathermaps.com/), looking at many variables within the models, and comparing current conditions to historical analogs and we were seeing what was coming and wondering why the Hell stronger alerts were not issued for several areas. Once it hit, there were on-the-ground reports coming in at the rate of dozens per minute. It was obvious even while it was well off-shore that this was going to be a monster. And yes, there were several bands of heavy rain and high wind. As an aside, I'm now 24 hours with low pressure below 997 millibars. This is unprecedented in my experience.
