  1. Thanks everyone! Unfortunately I'm working on a client proposal to be presented tomorrow morning , but I'll celebrate tomorrow evening! Cheers!
  2. I politely decline the medal, however well-intentioned. I spent the day negotiating with an ignorant asshole and kept my composure against reasonable expectations. Meanwhile, and more importantly, my 86 year-old dad had a harsh reaction to his dialysis treatment, which my mobility impaired mom had to deal with by herself, 1300 km away from me. Rage-quitting had nothing to do with it. Respect for my fellow idiots and sparing them my venting of my frustration at my inability to help my parents was my reason for leaving. No sympathy asked for or required. Aging and all that comes with it is a fact of life.
  3. Hi folks, Lonnnnnggg day at the office, thought I'd jump in the game to chill. After 17 deaths and 0 kills in 15 minutes, thought it best to leave - it is supposed to be fun, after all. My brain was elsewhere and my focus was about 2 on a scale of 1 to 10. I should have known better than to try and kick it when I couldn't give it 100% attention. See ya next round - and I promise to play it to the end, regardless of whatever my stats are. Peace, - Astronomer
  4. Go for the full tower - you'll appreciate having the space, airflow, and flexibility. I went with a Cooler Master Haf X (and considered the NZXT's). I chose the Haf X because the CPU air cooler I bought would not fit ion the NZXT!
  5. I was going to add this as well. Virtualize it! The benefits are huge: If another server is needed, just make sure you have enough RAM and spin up another virtual server. Use a proper backup and make regular images of the virtual machines. If the physical box dies, no problem: Get another box - and it can be completely dissimilar hardware from the original - install your VM layer, spin up some VM's, move your images over, and you're back in business damned fast vs a bare-iron install. My company does not install servers for our clients that aren't virtualized. Heck, I have a HP ML350 w/ 12Gb RAM in my basement running 3 Virtual production servers + 2 test environments and a couple of specialized Linux appliances (check out http://www.turnkeylinux.org/ for over 100 ready-to-go free server appliance images) that I'm tweaking.
  6. Depends....I'm an Intel guy because I like to get down and dirty and overclock, and I know Intel. Nowadays, for gaming, the CPU is not as important. The GPU (video card) is much more important. If AMD is less expensive on the CPU side, go for it, and spend the max you can on the best video card that fits your budget. Good luck!
  7. The Saddledome sports arena, home to the Calgary Flames NHL team is flooded to the 10th row:
  8. Happy birthday pal! Pour yourself another one, clink the glasses together, and pretend that I'm there toasting you!
  9. What's a boner...?
  10. Longer days and warm weather...NHL Playoffs...NBA Playoffs...US Open Golf...most warm evenings I'm on the back deck, walking the dogs, at the driving range, or golfing. Clear nights, I'll be out with one of my telescopes under the stars. Count on me bring in the game on a cool and/or rainy evening.

  12. Another Idiot successfully orbits the Sun! Well done, sir, and I hope you have a great day!
  13. (Should be read with a Scottish accent) With my wife of 23 year's blessing, I steeled myself for a long round of gaming today. In this case, it was about 5 hours duration. After 12 years of COD and MOH, I tried a new-to-me game last year: "Grand Olde Laugh; Fuck!" (Golf). Last year, I was hooked after two rounds. I took lessons in April of this year and practiced, practiced, practiced, read book after book, and watched the pros every week. Today, in a charity tourney, I played me arse off, and acquitted meself proud! Ach! Our team hit par in a scramble competition, and I was 3rd in a long-drive contest, and my putts helped us make par in 5 crucial holes. I've managed to ruin a nice walk in the country-side with a game that involves hitting an innocent ball with an intimidating array of sticks with no apparent purpose. I'd be ashamed of such wanton frivolity if it weren't so freakin' fun!!! Shockingly, no computers were involved. Discuss.
  14. Watch your step bro....i love my Country Keep your tender feeling in check and wash your pussy Johnny. We all love our respective countries and love making jokes about them and other countries. If you want to watch some USA bashing hang out in the political forum for a while. Some of the "non-US residents" there have no problem letting we Americans know how fucked up our country is.
  15. Networking/Internet? Passenger jet? Light-bulb? Microchip? Automobile? Antibiotics?
  16. Yup, I experienced the same thing. I'll go back to the prior driver as well.
  17. Wonderful news LOC. So glad to see your making a rapid recovery!
  18. Happy birthday Dirk Vader Diggler! Hope your day is/was a great one!
  19. Crap. I bought 2 680's 5 months ago. I think they'll be good for a few years until my next system build.
