    Got my HDD yesterday. Dunno what all the fuss is about the black drives being noisy. But I do tend to have alot of ambient stuff especially this time of year when its cold and my space heater is going. Now going to take forever to transfer probably 500gb of data over to it, and try to organize things as I go. Doing that so hopefully I will be able to remove those partitions from the main drive and resize it so all of it can be used for C. Primary is full with all the programs and such. Especially games.

  3. I checked out the map and I am not sure what extra stuff is built into it. But in any case it is not compatible with the mod.
  4. bones? or weapons? If its the 128 weapons error then that typically means the map has some custom weapons built into it that are not normally in the game. No way around that from the mod standpoint except removing some custom stuff like the three needed for the ac130 or the one needed for the reaper. The bones one... been discussed to death.
  5. Treyarch. WAW, BO, BO2. The typical weapon skin for a cod weapon is 1024x1024. Some are other power-of-two variations. In the attached file are three versions. cod4, bo, and mw2. Each is significantly different and they all have different model coordinates for the meshes. So its not possible to simply switch them out or just move parts of the texture around. But if you bring into Photoshop or whatever, fool around with colors or other things, then it can be exported again to work with the specific model the parts are arranged for. mp5_col.zip
  6. Ok long winded... but I do that. No it shouldnt. It should be what is best for the game no more no less. This kind of game that is. COD... all of them... are arcade games. There have been realism games, as far as it goes in any video game. But their player base is relatively small because most people dont want that. As an example: The modding community has over the years had discussions about the very existence of perks. Realism advocates say they are silly and dont 'belong' in military fps games. However whether or not something belongs is a point of view and the vast majority of players like them. So in the end it depends on who a game or a mod is aimed at. In this case OW2 is not geared towards realism. It is an arcade game. And yes there can be however many reasons for whatever attachment. But an LMG with a suppressor does not belong and its purpose is to be powerful and also to be loud. That is the balance. One thing that would have been cool to add, but there just wasnt room, was a 'bipod' perk for the LMG. So a player that is prone turns it into a standard turret weapon. Some mods have done that and its cool. But the game only has turret weapons for the SAW and in OW2 the minigun. So it would also need them for the M60 and the RPD as well. Choices have to be made.
  7. If you want the mod tools they are freely available. Obviously Maya is not. But I am pretty sure Blender these days can make weapons for cod4. I might be wrong. I know it can make standard stuff like chairs but its the rigging that is important. No viewhand animations are possible. That requires Maya. Check this site out. http://wiki.modsrepository.com/index.php/Main_Page However assuming the model itself is fine and you want to mess around with the model skins their iwi's are just .dds files. Use the standard iwi to dds converter, open in photoshop or gimp, make your changes then export as a targa. Best to convert back to an iwi with the mod tools. Put that into a mod iwd as all custom stuff must be and you are good to go. The engine can only get away with so much and certainly environmental mapping plays at least as much of a role. COD4 has a 'cartoonish' feel no matter how good the textures are. The Trey games have always been better in this regard.
  8. Game balance. Besides, if realism was the goal then for example no 6 foot leaps or bunny hopping. Jump any higher than 4 feet and you might break and ankle. No health regen. If shot in the leg you can no longer move. And on and on. The goal is to make something that is fun for everybody... including the victims... not just a single player.
  9. Because something exists in RL doesnt mean its good for the game. In this case an LMG class with one would be too powerful in terms of balance. At a minimum, range would have to be severely reduced and possibly damage. So in effect what you get is a belt fed assault rifle with a silencer. An interesting idea but would require aspects that make it no more or less likely to make a kill than a scarh, assuming a player with equal skill for both weapons.
  10. Seen a bunch of vids like this of some guys pulling the legs of annoying kids. Most are so-so but a few are classic.
  11. One of the things that has been discussed is integrating advanced vcard chips directly onto the cpu. Which could certainly be much more efficient but also decrease sales for nvidia etc. Game companies might like the idea since it would tighten up how many different cards are out there and also how fast improvements are made. Much better for development costs. Like consoles.

  13. You have zero idea how tired I am of looking at scripts. Writing virtual code in my head is one of the best ways to help me get to sleep at nights. How bad is that? For OW2 the last scripting thing I am working on is clan membership and redirects. Asked Rugger what he wants and its all going to be time based. Also promised to move the hbar to the m60 to get the saw back. Yes I will get that done. If this works, and no more problems, I am taking a nice long Christmas break. But if something is not working out or not sure how to get something to work PM me and I will see what I can do.

    Looked at Raptors but yea they are more than I can afford right now. The black drive should work with my mb since it seems others have used it. Going to need a bios update since I would like to get a quad core for it also anyways.
  17. Took some work to get the Betties just right. Not too powerful, not too weak and the popup time + explosion not too quick. And the ability for quick-prone to reduce damage. The Chinalake functions the same as the GL attachment except that the pump action makes the reload faster. Oh, that and its a weapon available to all classes. So I attribute it to the same 'noob-tubers suck' complaints since day one that cod4 came out.

    Hi... Opinions: Going to get a new 1TB drive and have been looking at different Seagates and WD. Never realized the change but I do NOT like Seagate going with a 1 year warranty. I think I did have one of theirs replaced under warranty once... still within its 3-years... and there was the defective one a couple years ago that required the firmware update. But that happens. The other, looking and blue vs black WD drives. Given the choice I think I would rather go with the black for its performance and 5 year warranty. But I am concerned about the noise which some say is substantial compared to others of its size. Anybody have a black WD drive? How noisy is it? The 1 TB model can be had for $90 US right now. Thx.
  19. The game has never saved scores until the player completes the round or match. Whether its the stock game with ranking or any mod.
  20. You mean ranking up like from captain to major? That is handled by the game itself when it writes player stats at the end of the match.
  21. It also depends on how a particular server scores. Some make kills worth 100 points. Others make them worth 1 point. Is time more important? Or score? Should someone who played for 5 minutes and got 500 points (1:10) stay while someone who played 10 minutes but got 900 (1:9) points should go? What if the player who played for 10 minutes only got killed once while the other got killed 20 times? In short... no matter what I do you can take situations and say such and such player is better than the other. If not time, then score. If not score then K/D. And so on. Must also take into consideration classes. Given the same amount of time rushers generally get higher scores than snipers. If you take simple score into account, or a ratio of score and time, then it gives rushers an unfair advantage and says if you dont want to be kicked then dont be a sniper.
  22. Well.............. For non-clan members score is not taken into consideration. Been going back and forth with this for awhile here. Use score? Or just play time? Or if its weighted balance of both, what is the balance? There is no right answer to this but in the end something has to be chosen.
  23. There is nothing actually 'wrong' with the arab models but they have some extra bone tags in the head mesh that dont need to be there. The other three models (sas, opfor/spetznaz, marines) dont have the extras. I suspect when they converted the model from SP to MP they missed a couple.
  24. When I say text being pushed too far is that any program, be it a game or a video player, has a finite amount of space to devote to one thing or another. In the case of this error the 'overflow' means too much unique text was being set by the game too quickly. Text could be anything from the HUD display in the ac130 to the hints you get for mantling. The newer version of the mod makes better use of text assets to help with this problem. Sniper, the too many bones one has to do with a bad ACR model.
