i thought Defender was a malware thing? i have that and mcaffe AV running on together, no conflicts no bother - in fact i've never had an issue with defender on vista x64 or 7 x64. Never had a virus problem either come to think of it. Sure, AVG free was always pickin up program cracks as a trojan but i never actually got an infection, and that is suprising given the amount of porno i download - just ask Dawg, he "borrowed" 60gb of porn that would make your eyes bleed and he ain't got an infection......at least a pc related one...HAHAHAHAHAHA - gotcha!

CaptNut stool. i had DSL B4 and 1 of my main problems was the damn moden. u would have to reset the modem. but u said u lived in the middle of no where and u have DSL. do u have a node near u in the middle of no where? if not the further u get away the worse DSL gets. jut some info. Hey Nut have reset modem enuff times makes no difference. As for a node, i assume you mean an exchange? if so then yes, i'm about 4 miles from it or 1 as the crow flies. however, as this problem has only recently mooned me, i don't think it's a dsl issue. thanks for your input fella.

WiZiD Hey try going into your router and turning off the wireless as this may be the problem. I know you may need it but just turn it off and check your bandwith. Also UNINSTALL limewire. I make more money fixing computers just because of that. Okeedokeediddlydoo, i will uninstall limewire. I did block it via the firewall but it's no hassell to remove it. Will turn the wireless off tomoz afternoon, need to have an empty house or they'll all moan! thanks dude

ph4nt0m In Win7 you can run the resource monitor to check bandwidth being used by the pc Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open the task manager, then hit the "Performace" tab, then towards the bottom there is a button that says "Resource Monitor", hit that, then a new window will open with the resource monitor, hit the "Network" tab, then expand "Processes With Network Activity", this will list all running processes that are currently using your network adapter, Thanks Ph4nt0m, i ran this and it didn't show anything abnormal, and there wasn't anything i didn't recognize. As this seems to be a real issue from 1400 - 1800 GMT (which isn't really a peak period) i'll run the resource monitor again during those times to see if anything shows up. I think i'll try it as well when the game is running and with xfire on as well. Cheers

RuStY If you still havent figured it out, disconnect everything from your modem and connect 1 PC to it to see if its a bandwith brownout in your area. I didnt catch if its a cable modem or DSL, DSL should not brown out( weak signal) Cable can. Hey Rusty, i'm on DSL. Another thing is that obviously, me paying the bill, i have the best equipment on my rig, so i connect to my "N" type hub via my ring main, as due to the construction and lay out of my home, wireless didn't work for me very well. The other pc's and laptop, ps3, 360, psp, wii etc all connect via wireless. I've run tests on the other machines and they don't appear to have any issues, just that they always seem to have a higher ping rate than me, but i put that down to them connecting wireless and on "B&G". cheers

RuStY I was going to say the torrent thing, do you have a wireless router? could be a neighbor using your connection. yes mate, i got a wireless router, there's loads of stuff connected to it, PS3 Xbox360, a Wii, 2x PSP, 2x pcs, a Laptop and my Mobile Phone - all of which are not connected. I do set aside a bit of my bandwidth for other users - part of my mobile phone deal allows me to have unlimited calls, texts and internet access when it's connected to my wireless router or when i'm in a "Hot Spot" The amount set aside is 256k, and as i live in the middle of nowhere, it's hardly ever likely to be used by anyone else. I checked with my ISP and they said the last time anyone used part of my bandwidth was in 2008. Moaned to my ISP and they've upped my ip profile but the line phsically can't use anymore, i get a 28ms ping to uk servers with a down speed of 3.40mbps max. Boooooo!

no mate, use bit torrent & lime wire, none of which are running or at least nothing is obvious. Wondered if there's a program that could tell me what's going in and out. I use McAffe firewall but it's pretty much not bothered me so i guess there's nothing obvious, unless i've got a nasty thathas sorted it's own permissions i suppose, still after a full AV sweep and an Adaware scan, nothing came back... hey, for the last week or so i've been getting real high pings when playing on the COD2 DM server. I've used a program to kill everything i can before i play and this does seem to work so obviously i've got something using it but i can't nail down exactly what program or process id sucking me dry. any help be appreciated

hey, i didn't mean to stir a hornet's nest here. my point simply was that i personally wouldn't use an ad, in fact i'd use an ad blocker. I've clicked on ads from some pretty reputable companies over the years and my email account immeadiately feels like my ball sac - full. Ok, so i have the choice to click thru, equally i have the choice not to. for me, i'd rather so it at source, my bank or paypal. after a month or two, i wouldn't even notice it was going out. I always MEAN to click the donate button, but i more often than not will forget. Whatever happens, XI will continue to be my homepage! i would unfortunately click on a porno ad/link, sorry - i can't help it!
