I really like the way the site is heading actually, the one thing i'd really like to see (apart from more whaletails of the day) would be the ability to either upload our favorite mp3's obviously not hundreds but maybe our top 10 tunes of all time, or maybe to create an XI Music Player and clan members can create their own playlists. oh yes, and more whailtails like this one.......

huehefna try using http://www.password-changer.com/download.htm it works but you have to be able to boot to disk and have an ntfs file system i.e. winblows also if the machine still boots try logging in safe mode as the admininstrator if you can do this you can change permissions etc even in xp home but you have to be in safe mode hmmm, i'll check it out - thx hefna.

well, i re-enabled add ons which i use and disabled xfire toolbar, friendbar and rss feeds and it's now levelled out at an almost static 70000kb, which ain't to bad. Think i'll check out chrome though, been hearing good things about that. thanks for your help guys - appreciated!

right, i ran ff in safemode and managed to get it down to an average of 91000kb/ 12% of system resources which still sounds like an awful lot to me but when i restarted in normal mode it stayed more or less the same. All themes and non essential add ons have been disabled, i noticed that there were three versions of java running, i've disabled the earlier verions and just kept the most upto date running. i'll fiddle a bit more. thanks guys

live-evil I'm using firefox 3.6 and taskmanager is saying it is using about 80,000k, you could maybe try that. just updated to 3.6 mate. Checked task manager and it says it's using an average of 140000k - significantly down but almost double what i think is normal. Could it be so high cuz i'm using 64bit? Gonna check out the addons as well for a memory leak, that kinda makes sense.

live-evil If you download it and install it right clicking will bring up the context box you then click on unlocker and a dialogue box opens, the options you then have are to take no action,delete, rename or move that file. ok.....i'll give that a try thx pal. Reallydon't wanna have to reinstall windows, just because i can't access the back up. The other option i think may just be to create another user account and change/access restore & back up centre from there. I can't see why that won't work, except probably it will only backup the settings etc from THAT user account. - this is turning out to be a fuckin nightmare!

live-evil You could try a program called unlocker which you can get from filehippo.com, it shows up in the right click context menu, works in vista so i think it should work in 7, by the way it is freeware and a program i have used before for stubborn files. cynic Have you tried taken ownership of that folder or file with the new user and then trying to copy it? i tried that but i think the cmds i was using were for Vista. Can somebody write the commands here for that? thx

cynic it could be an addon causing the issue you should try and run it in safemode and see if the memory issue still happens. If not then most likely it is one of the addons. thanks for that man - how do i run it in safe mode? i assume you mean FF not windows...........

how much of the system memory should firefox typically use? i'm not downloading/upping anything, in fact i'm on this site and taskmanager shows that firefox is using 6948652k of memory. I think that's a bit excessive, especially given that i'm transcoding a dvd file using Nero 9 and that's only using 2011021k.

sup i'm having a problem with my windows user account. it's an admin account and i think it's gone tits up. I'm trying to create a new user account so i can copy all my settings etc to it, then delete the old user account. I know i need to create 3 accounts on the machine to do this, one old, one new and one working account. I'm getting to do this ok, but when i copy all the files, leaving out NTUSER.DAT NTUSER.DAT.LOG & NTUSER.INI. Most of the files appear to copy ok but then i keep getting an error about the folder APPLICATION DATA. Get pop up box saying " i need permission to copy/move folder, log onwith admin rights" even though the account i am working on IS an admintype. Can somebody help me out? i need to do this in order to access windows backup. thx
