UPDATE: A field tech showed up today and checked my connection. He said I wasn't getting the full 1.5 and that he was going to check at the port to see if it was getting it there. After about twenty mins he called and said he changed the port that I was connected to. Hopefully that will help. Thanks all for your input...

I'm in Arkansas and My ISP is Centurylink (formerly Centurytel) and that is my only choice outside of satellite...The speed I have is 1.5 that is the fastest available for this area...I have done a traceroute with ping plotter and that is how I know it is their equipment...The first hop which is a bout a mile from me pings at 36-38ms...I was told that that is excessive for anything under a 100 mi...

I understand that latency is the lag time but what I don't understand is my dsl speeds are in normal limits but the lag is varying considerably. I know the problem is in my ISP providers line but they won't acknowledge anything wrong. I'm trying to educate myself with enough info to argue the point with them...

Can anyone explain the relationship between DSL speeds and Latency?...I have been trying to get my ISP to do something about my high ping and they tell me as long as my latency is below 160 they have met their obligation...Hell with parameters like that why even bother setting a limit...
